Tavares, what are you doing? Endorsements?

Where did I say most celebrities are virtuous?

I'm not advocating that endorsement deals need to end, but some liability to take on the endorsement deal would hopefully make some celebrities reconsider repping the worst of the worst companies.

If it was viable to stop all endorsements and all thst was marketed was the facts about a product, I'd be all for it... However, that's a fantasy. I'm more concerned with the outright lies and (in some cases) harmful products.

Saying that some equipment is 10% better than another might be true even if they're exaggerating most of the time.
Do you know what the word "nebulous" means?

There is no way a celebrity or Tavares should be held liable for anything as nebulous as this. That goes for Russel Brand too.

If you want to talk about logic and reason and what SHOULD happen, a celebrity (whether you like them or not) endorsing a product shouldn't even move the needle for you on said product one way or another.

Who the hell cares? It's meaningless.

...unless that needle is on the humour-o-meter, because John Tavares endorsing amulets IS amusing to me

wtf are you talking about? What's nebulous about this? He's endorsing an obvious bullshit scam. I'd be embarrassed if anyone I knew got involved in the snake oil business, let alone someone so wealthy who has absolutely no need to be wasting energy on side hustles like this. Ripping off credulous rubes is shameful.

I don't either but it certainly might embarrass his teammates, friends and family. At best JT might lose other endorsements because they don't want to be associated with a flake. He should just know better or have people around him that do.
Why would anyone be embarrassed?

I don't know. I think that this is just fuel for Canada's favorite past time: Leaf Hate.

The burner accounts are all over this thread claiming that there is a clear black/white/right/wrong in this situation.

Are we even talking about hockey here?

The smearing of John Tavares using this as an example is perhaps the moral lesson, as opposed to everything else.

Answer: you cannot prove anything here. The harmful effects of 5G, or the Amulet's effective ability to protect people.

PS- I'm still saving my money to mail order some X-Ray Specs.

At the end of the day, John Tavares is free to shill any random thing he feels like and it doesn’t really deserve the scrutiny.

I think once players start pushing morally unethical products, narcotics, or financial investments, it becomes a very serious cause of concern and absolutely deserves scrutiny.

At the price this bracelet costs I gotta assume anyone who can afford it probably knows it's bogus. But when these guys start pushing gambling, cryptocurrencies, NFT's, or even just plain old booze, it gets into a shady area. At some point there's a limit where endorsing something would be so utterly morally repulsive they would deserve any and all criticism coming there way.

I guess it's up to you to decide where to draw the line.

Does anyone have an issue with squeaky clean Crosby pushing Gatorade?

It is a sugary drink masquerading as a healthy rehydration drink.

That is far more harmful than this endorsement.

Why is there no outrage?

The only reason there is outrage is that it isn't a mainstream idea or brand.

Some of the other brands endorsing this are much bigger than Tavares too.

I don't think Gatorade say anything about the nutritional value of their product. Gatorade does what it's intended for, replenishing your electrolytes. Mostly through the sodium, the sugar is there, so it tastes nice, and you buy it again.

What does this amulet do, keep Voldemort away?

C'mon now, maybe we can have some level of critical thinking rather than constant fan worship?

Does it have a negative effect on the body?

Does the average athlete need Gatorade or will water do the trick?

I am not defending the product.

Critical thinking here would do you some good, agreed.

Where did I worship Tavares?

I think it is idiotic and very stupid, but pretending like athletes don't push crap all the time is dishonest.
