It's not that it isn't possible, because a player wanting to play for their hometown is possible. It's the smugness of Leafs fans saying he's going to TOR like no other team in the NHL matters, or that because it was their childhood dream they'll leave their teams to go to TOR.

I just read through the thread and the vast majority of Leaf fans are being respectful and realistic towards the situation ("this is stupid", "Matthews is our #1C", "oh great not this crap again", etc). I'm the first one to call out smugness but I'm just not seeing it from the faithful.

Tavares is coming home to Toronto, just like Gretzky and Stamkos did when they became UFAs.

Leafs turned Gretzky away and didn't make Stamkos a serious offer.
I doubt Strachan knows their thoughts on Tavares but really every Team will want him so it's not much of a reach.

Leafs lost their real interest in Stamkos after we got Matthews but pls continue to be sarcastic..did we wanted Stamkos? sure, but at out conditions which pretty clear were not he's conditions..as for this thread this should be locked

Not in this thread, this has actually been a respectful thread from Leafs fans. But in the past, and for some reason this summer there have been a lot of articles from Toronto media about how Tavares is the Leafs next target.

Agreed. Very respectful in this thread. But I've spent a lot of years on HF and I know there's been a lot of "Tavares to Toronto" from Leafs fans since before the 2009 draft.

Tavares has 2 more years on his contract. The Isles aren't going to trade him in those 2 years, so nothing could happen until he is UFA on July 1st 2018.

Would I love to have Tavares on the Leafs? Of course.
