Unreal day to be a Leafs fan. As a Canucks fan, I can't relate. We have never gone after the biggest fish in FA. Tavares is an incredible talent, and gives you guys 2 top tier centres... Arguably 2 top 5 centres. That's insane.

Is their any log jam at forward now? Is there any chance a guy like Nylander gets moved? I don't know the specifications of your cap structure but I'd imagine the big money is mostly reserved for JT and Mathews.
 
not only is it amazing that an elite player like Tavares took a discount to go home to win with the Leafs, but he's not even the best player on our team. Feels great

It makes sense that he talked to the Isles, as a courtesy. But the hated Bruins? The cap-challenged Lightning? Maybe it’s the thought of joining his friends like Bergeron and Stamkos. Maybe some sunny locations like TB, Dal and SJ to satisfy other family members? Hard to believe those, but who knows. Maybe as simple as just doing his due diligence.

Fun to speculate on what went into how he came up with his list, if he was dead set on Toronto from the start.

In a lot of ways, his list made no sense. But that also just goes to show what an utterly impressive program has been built in Toronto in a few short years. In a way it was quite telling that he didn't actually go to any of Dallas, Boston, Tampa during the interview process. And if San Jose was a favorite, he didn't bother dropping in there either.

I think that Nylander and Marner will be kept around so that Matthews and Tavares both get to have a great winger. I think them and Rielly will be the cornerstones of the franchise going forward, with pretty much anyone else being a possibility for being shipped out to keep things rolling

I think EK is heading to Vancouver with Ryan, just make more sense than the Leafs.
 
I bet we push hard to get Nylander, Matthews and Marner inked before the season starts. We definitely don't want to let next season play out before re-signing them.

it's a process still. It will take time. Let's not knee jerk if the Leafs find themselves getting booted in say 2nd round for 2 yrs in a row. Winning is a process, it's still a young team and they need to learn how to win in the playoffs.

Babs will do a fine job. He's at his best when he has veteran talent.

Yeah true, good points. Professional approach.

I do wonder if JT had made up his mind (or was 99% sure) after the Leafs meeting. He must’ve had some added emotions from that point onwards that he was so close to his dream. So, there’s a good chance he was in the rest of those meetings, thinking to himself about how he was going to beat each of them on the ice going forward (especially TB and Bos), instead of always losing to them for all these seasons in NY.
