This ends with Tavares returning to the leafs on a longer-term deal to keep AAV down. Similar to the Tanev deal.
Ha, guy just scored 38 goals. Y'all are like 2 year 5 million a year seems fair.
As previously mentioned, probably the best comparison is Giroux who signed in Ottawa for 3 years at $6.5m per season.
Tavares also 34,,coming off a better season than Giroux was when he signed and the cap going up could probably do a little better. I would say on the open market could get 3 or 4 years at $8/8.5 per. A discount for Toronto is probably 3 x $7/7.5 per.
I hope Montreal signs him. A 3 year deal. He's big left shot center, 38 goals. Play with DemidovUnless Tavares gives Toronto a hometown discount(Which is possible) He will be headed to free agency. Here is my take on teams that could be a landing spot for him.
Taveras is settled with him family in Mississauga and Muskoka in the summers so I am going to guess three places that make sense IF he wants to stay close to home and Toronto doesn't resign him.
Buffalo, Montreal and Ottawa. I don't think Buffalo will target Tavares but I do see it as a good fit if Tavares wants to stays close to home. The other spots are Ottawa and Montreal. Ottawa also fits that scenario. Montreal could also fit into that scenario but is a bit farther from home. Both Ottawa and Montreal could use a player like Tavares so there is a need there.
IF Taveras doesn't resign where does he go? People's thoughts?
Its more that Tavares doesn't wanna leave, has made tens of millions in his career and is living out his dream so no reason for him to chase money.
IMO he'll stay with the Leafs on a massive discount.
Historically speaking, you find a lot of players taking massive discounts to play in Toronto because it's their dream?
Fair enough. Toronto could pull it all together at some point before Tavares retires. If he wants more money, he will definitely get it elsewherePretty sure he only wants to win it in Toronto and as such, will take whatever he is offered. We will see. I think he is satisfied where he is. I don’t see him willing to make any big moves even if it is for a better chance at a cup (Although I think Toronto is closer than others do, perhaps).
He apparently asked for 9M and the Leafs offered 5M. We'll see if they can bridge that gap.Its more that Tavares doesn't wanna leave, has made tens of millions in his career and is living out his dream so no reason for him to chase money.

Much better? Looks like a big step back at least in the regular season if they run with a top six of:Get much better, while spending much less money?
yes please
Agreed. I just think he is set and settled.Fair enough. Toronto could pull it all together at some point before Tavares retires. If he wants more money, he will definitely get it elsewhere
Can’t skate anymore.
