Glad he did it .. the cross checks are one thing, but the spear to the back of the leg? Eat shit.

Yeah that spear to the back of the leg is dirty as shit, I know cause it was one of my go to moves, really takes the steam out of forwards. Take away their base and they cant compete.

No.

You don't injure players.

A retaliation slash after a cup check is one thing, but attempt to injured is not ok.

He got the message across, that's exactly the extent of the retaliation.

It's a fine every day of the week, and the system working as it should.

A little quick on the announcement of the fine seeing as it's been what 15 hours or so, but this is the right call.

I agree attempt to injure is never acceptable, which is why Bouchard should have never speared JT in the back of the leg, its not JT's fault that Bouchard moved his hands, JT was going for Bourchard's stick.

@93gilmour93 needs the Iron sheik GIF. lol

If he dropped the gloves and squared up braking his nose, would that be OK? Or is punching someone bare knuckled in the face not an attempt to injure?

No, players don't fight in an attempt to injure one another.

What kind of barbarity is this?

Tavares' response was correct, whether it was justified or not, who cares.
He did the right thing and did not cross the line.

Bare knuckle punching to the face is not barbarity? The fudge am I reading?

Our captain is getting cross checked and having his legs taken out, he turned around and dealt with it. A broken hand goes a long way ensuring he can no longer slash, cross check and trip our captain.

I side with Tavares. At some point you have to stand up and be counted. He should have whacked him harder……teach him a lesson

100% that was the best thing he could do that play

Some scrub thinks he is mid 00s Christ pronger lol with the cross checks and ditry trips

Great on JT for doing that

I would say the same if holl was doing that to Draisailt. A superstar should retaliate against a scrub who is trying to take liberties

Nikita Kucherov would have either slew footed, head shot, or nuts speared a guy if they did that to him

If your a star player and some one tries to do that to you then stand up. Next time hope JT drops the gloves after a slash if the player is willing and wrestles his ass down too

The slash was with some anger, it happens in the heat of the moment until we can eliminate the reptilian genesis of these emotions. JT needs to bring some passion and a bit of edge in games, especially as playoffs arrive. Not only for his own protection so that players don't take advantage of him but also to rallying the team.

He doesn't need to do it all the time obviously, but as Matthews and Nylander have shown at times when others are idiots, you have to return the favor occasionally to those who risk injury to you.

The fine is nothing.

That between the legs shot he didn’t score hurts more. That would have been a sweet combo to go with the slash.

Granted, but the NHL brings the fans derision on themselves, by first having very poor standards of officiating, and two some of the baffling decisions by the DoPS. Desharnais started that whole thing and escalated the incident until Tavares finally had enough and retaliated. I don't disagree on the 5K fine, but if Tavares deserved one then so did Desharnais, 3 xchecks, 2 slashes and the biggest no-no a cupping.

Good for JT for standing up for himself, embarrassing for the league to allow dog shit officiating like this continue.

Oh this is shit reffing is just getting started, wait till the playoffs. One of those glory hounds will decide a series

To be clear JT was going for the stick. :naughty::sarcasm:;):fight:

Like a nut cupping? There is no place in hockey for cupping!!!!!

We should start a GoFundMe to help our poor captain pay this egregious fine. In this economy we have to do all we can, this man has a family!!

Man i try to give the main boards the benefit of the doubt mostly

Usually i would say that leaf fans are mostly top sensitive and some bad takes you see on the mains happens to all teams with great players

The JT thread on the mains is so dumb and biased.

If anyone other then a leaf player did what JT did (with maybe tom wilson, marchand and 2 or 3 more guys as an exception) they would be praised and would be applauded for standing up for themselves

However since JT is a leaf, people are saying he is a coward, spineless, should have been suspended etc.

Really dumb takes on that thread

But they only went half way.

Should have been an official warning to Desharnais. He's a repeat stick offender.

Additionally, they should make official the punishments handed out to incompetent officials.
