It’s fine either way. He’s trending toward being a ~25 goal scorer with health issues. He would have been a nice add, but this is very much in the same vein of signing a Pacioretty and hoping that the likelihood of decline and injury doesn’t catch up with him. In both cases, you’re getting a guy in his 30s who is no longer the guy he was 5 years ago.

If they manage to get him, great. If not, there are other shots to be taken.

My wife and daughter love the concept of the summer lake cottage now.

Mostly because of Scott McGillivrey.
In Maine they call it a camp, but it is the same thing. My grandparents had a nice camp on a lake way up there and it was a little slice of heaven.

Once you used up a superfund site's worth of DDT to kill all the black flies and skeeters.

Sounds like Pamlico County down here. Pretty sure the mosquitos are capable of carrying off a grown man but they have a gentlemen’s agreement

I am fully prepared to turn on a dime from all the good thoughts and feelings I had about Vladimir Tarasenko just 24 hours ago.

Who needs a steadily declining star that’s past his prime? NOT US, I’ll tell you that right now, not us.

(The thoughts and feelings expressed above are subject to change upon Vladimir Tarasenko signing in Raleigh)

Honestly? Yeah.... He certainly would have helped our offense a lot, but the more I thought about it, he's not what he used to be and there's a lot of potential for him to be Patches 2.0. If he's doing this to get more term or money up front, then bah goodbye time to pivot elsewhere.

And really, I hope our front office approaches it this way as well. Move on and get someone else. Go with the Karlsson trade, and then follow that up with Pesce for Nylander. We'd be better off doing that anyway.

I didn't realize how extensive his client list is with over 60 players represented (albeit many of them low $ including Mendel who we just signed + Kase from last year and of course Dougie):

Non-ironically, signing a player like this at $3.5Mx1 is a very different story than signing him for real money with real term. Given his age, injury history, and recent level of play, we can look to Teravainen as an example of the salary:production ratio we’d be signing up for. It’s problematic to have multiple players like that, while also trying to squeeze in UFA extensions for core players and upgrade via trade or FA.

That kind of risk is a luxury we can’t afford at the moment. Let an Ottawa take it on, it makes sense for them.

I do have to say if he does end up in Ottawa, they are getting pretty old pretty quick, and they're going to be back to bad hockey sooner than many realize.

Looks like it is Ottawa

Yea, I think part of my feels will depends on the contract he signs...1-2 yrs @ $5M or less I'll be disappointed. More money or term I'll be happy we didn't sign him

There's clearly a disconnect between what the player's former agent thought was the best idea for him (aka. take a chance on a contender and up your value before 2024) and what he actually wanted. I definitely get it: he's already won his cup with St. Louis, and probably thinks that he can get paid with term right now. If Ottawa has the means to do it because DeBrincat flaked out, well, good for Vlad.
