Well, back to worrying about the Aho extension that has been pending for 5 days.
lol ok well then yeah glad we aren't going there

That’s if you believe Larry f***ing Brooks.Sounds like we weren’t really that close after all. Just one on a list of offers that he wasn’t going to agree to.

Oh yeah, at the end of the day this isn’t any type of make or break move for us. If the term is short and not an over payment, I’d be more than happy to have him. But like you said, if he’s asking more term or going overboard on the $$ amount then we don’t need to force anything.Honestly? Yeah.... He certainly would have helped our offense a lot, but the more I thought about it, he's not what he used to be and there's a lot of potential for him to be Patches 2.0. If he's doing this to get more term or money up front, then bah goodbye time to pivot elsewhere.
And really, I hope our front office approaches it this way as well. Move on and get someone else. Go with the Karlsson trade, and then follow that up with Pesce for Nylander. We'd be better off doing that anyway.
I whole heartedly agree:Non-ironically, signing a player like this at $3.5Mx1 is a very different story than signing him for real money with real term. Given his age, injury history, and recent level of play, we can look to Teravainen as an example of the salary:production ratio we’d be signing up for. It’s problematic to have multiple players like that, while also trying to squeeze in UFA extensions for core players and upgrade via trade or FA.
That kind of risk is a luxury we can’t afford at the moment. Let an Ottawa take it on, it makes sense for them.
His camp can think whatever it wants, but he's moving on from NYR because they can't afford him. Asking for the moon with his next contract at a high dollar long term rate in a flat cap space when many of his peers are taking short term at lower rates is dumb1x$5.5M was my thought for what the Canes were doing. I bet that Vlad's camp thinks that if he has to leave New York, he might as well shoot for term.

A double agent situation. What the hell is going on over there?
There’s layers to this one. A true masterpieceA double agent situation.
If we wanted a motherf***ing mole in the organization, we would offersheet one from Montreal!
To be clear I was just shitting on Larry Brooks on basic principle.I dunno, his take seems consistent with the known facts.
We were hearing scuttlebutt that the Canes were hashing out final details on a deal, but that doesn’t make sense in light of the agent being fired. Presumably Tank would not approve a deal and then turn around and fire his agent the next day. It makes sense that the deal was presented, the agency felt good enough about it to leak to a reporter, and Tank said “**** no, you’re fired” after seeing what they were working on.
Honestly this is all consistent with how the Canes operate too. We are well known for making offers — sometimes successfully — that insult the recipient. This is the organization that signed TDA for 1x$1M and then traded him when he had a good season. Do I think we would be in on a deal that would make a player so angry that he fires his agent? Yes I do.
