If Noesen isn't getting power play time, which in a perfect world, he doesn't, he's definitely a tweener. A good tweener, but still a tweener.
Why? Because he spent a lot of his career there? No way he proved he is a NHL level player. He might be an 4th line guy or an extra forward but after putting up 36 points last year and playing the way he did he wont go back down until he starts to lose a step.

Yes, he's probably an NHL player for somebody at this point. Just probably not for us.

We tried. It didn't work out.
Define "all in". Last season they did aggressively pursue a couple really big transactions but dropped out when the cost arguably "got stupid". This year it's reported that Orlov approached us and maybe brings Tank in tow? And Karlsson wants out of SJ but possible destinations being limited to strong Cup contenders with available cap space narrows the field considerably. Also, to me going all in kind of implies sacrificing future chances for the immediate. Even with the big moves that might still happen, I don't see the Canes doing that, arguably the opposite (in not giving Pesce and Skjei long term contracts that could hurt down the line).

tldr: Maybe it's more a matter of optimizing what's possible at the time than a change in philosophy?

Sorry I did not include :sarcasm:

AG trying to stay relevant after a NY based writer out intel about the team he covers?
Maybe it's just me, but the non-content of it looks something I would cook up and release if I found myself having got badly upstaged and felt like tugging the rug a bit. That post is all about Shayna the reporter of speculations, not Tarasenko.

His was an empty calorie tweet. He notes his "intel" but provided literally none. So his intel was Tarasenko hadn't signed yet? So transparent.

He never stated anything refuting her, such as it wouldn't happen or that they weren't still in talks. It was just a petty shot because he was feeling his turf was being encroached on.

That’s part of the point, the price. Whether you have tweeners, proven grinders or young guys on your fourth line they’re all generally cheap. Noesen isn’t fast enough to play in the top six, and he’s a scorer so he’s generally not your first choice for the grind line, in fact all three of third line guys are better skaters. So for us we can put him on the fourth line and let him get pp time because we’re short on pp types. The second he becomes more expensive we would find another way and he’d be gone. If he was playing on a crap team that needed scoring they’d keep him around until he wanted more money or a faster/younger guy stole his job. that’s basically the definition of a tweener. He was give opportunities when he was younger as well.

He got his points because we gave him access to skill players he would rarely have anywhere else on the pp. He doesn’t drive play with those guys.

The quote and reason for my post is he was called an AHL player. And he's not he's firmly a NHL caliber player. Your reaction right though once he needs a raise he will be on another NHL team, not the Canes.

Or the AHL. I don’t think he’s firmly anywhere, everyone knew he could score especially at the AHL level. I agree someone else would probably at least start him in the NHL until he worked out or didn’t but then he’d probably be back in the AHL. The league knows he was on our pp from day one and that’s why he’s getting points. He’s a tweener in my books, and he’s hardly the first tweener that could score in the NHL if he could find a home. Almost every top scorer in the AHL who’s over 25 just needs a shot with the right place at the right time. Expansion typically helps guys like this out and they can get an NHL payday for awhile. I hope he stays in the league for awhile, I just see the reasons why he hasn’t made it to this point.

Like Derek Ryan. Late bloomer, he may drop back at the end of his career but he's not going back to the AHL

No idea, I have yet to hear anyone credible say it's not true which unlike some other situations (see Marchment last year) in itself is interesting.
That’s what is curious to me about this. Nobody corroborated the report, but nobody came out and said it was false either, not even Gold said it wasn’t happening.

Makes me think it is actually in the works, but is being held up by a corresponding move (likely a D-man trade or maybe even EK).

I mean let's be real here for a second. Shay pissed off everyone at the deadline with her ability to scoop every major move before it got to the main reporters. There was tangible animosity among the hockey community that this new on the scene chick from The Athletic was scooping guys who had embedded themselves in the industry for decades.

If this Tarasenko rumor wasn't true, they all would have jumped like piranha to discredit her. Last night and today would have been a feeding frenzy, so to NOT see that happen is pretty telling. But if they do know the scoop is correct, the only way they can discredit her is to not say anything and let it dangle out there in the wind. And a few days later, after her credibility has taken a hit, one of the old guard hockey media can pick up the story and claim it as his own.
