The worst of this sort of hit all look pretty much the same and this hit was basically straight out of the Tom Wilson/Raffi Torres playbook and the worst hits those guys threw.

Like, maybe Cooke on Savard 15 years ago was worse, or whatever. Laperriere on Savage was probably the worst I ever saw. But there have been very few that have been worse than this in the last several years. This was late, high, about as blindside as it gets, directly to the head, and by a fringe NHLer on an All-Star.
I will give you that there are not many in the last few years. The big ones that come to mind are probably 5 to 10 + years ago.

I think Tom Wilson has 2 or 3 substantially worse. The hit on Wennberg (5 years ago already?)was more blindside, more head contact and at a faster speed. Of course it was a 20 game suspension for Wilson with a history (dont know if Jeannot does).

Cooke hit on Savard was many x worse IMO. And got no games.

That's about as dirty of a blindside late cheapshot as you'll ever see, and it's by a no-talent thug against a 40-goal scorer.

That should be a 10-15 game suspension.

What an absolute piece of garbage.
No talent thug??

How soon we all forget;

15-20 games? Some of y'all are dreaming. Not saying that there shouldn't be suspensions like that for dirty plays they want out of the game, but there have been far worse hits that have gone unpenalized, let alone suspended for more than a handful of games.
Hits like this shouldn’t be allowed in this league.

If there is convincing evidence that the intent of the hit is to injure the other player, it should be an automatic season suspension with no pay to deter incidents like this.
sometimes it writes itself huh?

The Cooke hit on Savard was before this sort of hit was illegal, and was basically the catalyst for the rules being changed.

But, like, when we're at 'well Cooke-Savard or Tom Wilson's worst hit were worse than this' and you can't really find many/any recent examples ... that means this was pretty freaking bad.

This is the type of nonsense that if the league actually cared about player safety it would throw the book at.

Shit like this is why I’d never let my future kids play hockey - the concussion risk and quality of life hit you take because some bum couldn’t be bothered to take your safety into account is insane.

Really hope Boeser is okay.

Gallagher's flying elbow on Pelech might've been a worse hit, certainly not less of a bad hit. Gallagher got five games. Somewhere in the 3-5 range for this one, I'll guess.

He had a chance to go for the body/shoulder first but it looks like he takes an awkward, almost fly-by route to the front of the body and picks the head. I dont think its the worst hit in the history of head shots but it was reckless and definitely suspension worthy.

Hmmmmm......... so if Boeser misses 30 games and fumbles his way to 15 goals in his contract year where he was playing well and is as honest a player as there is in the game and you are good with 1 - 2 games.

Bad take Fella.
What’s fans want and what DoPS actually does is two very different things. Based on previous DoPS suspensions 1-2 games fits. Hits to the head are still not treated how they should, but the NHL is unlikely to change.

Nothing about it is a bad take

JT Miller! … JT Miller! … JT Miller

What does Miller have to do with that garbage hit?

Yikes Brandt Clarke is 21 and he looks like a 35 year old Wayne Cashman. A few strands of hair and I've seen better skin on an onion. He could be 30 like a few of those 17 year olds fudging his birth certificate to play in the Little League WS.

That's basically the Richards-Booth hit, which the league had made pretty clear they want out of the game.

If they were at all serious this would be an easy 10+ game suspension. I'll be surprised if it gets 5.

You know what would actually protect them? Eliminating checking entirely.

Textbook dirty headshot. Blindside, late, aims for the head. Just because it wasn't explosive doesn't mean it wasn't chickenshit.
