I think it's more that players are not used to getting hit after the give up the puck. This isn't the 80s or 90s when you finished checks for attrition. That's largely out of the game.

No surprise Boeser was not expecting a late hit that provided 0 value towards getting the puck
That was within the checking window, it's like half a second. The issue was the hit being to the head, it wasn't too late.

And also, people say stuff like "Boeser keeps getting unlucky with injuries" but if he's admiring his passes like this all the time without watching his surroundings, I'd say that it's probably not luck.

Ugh must’ve happened right when I went to bed.

Canucks sweep cali road trip. Overshadowed by a head shot on Prince Charming. Hope it’s not as bad as it looked!

Definitely a dirty hit and he aimed for the head. Should get 5 as a minimum not 1-3, that's not sending a message at all.

But we all know DoPs has idiots in charge.

Waaaaay over there
Not a flying elbow, but that's about the only good thing you can say.
Jeannot is probably suspended 5 games or so, but he really should get 10 games or so.
I hope Boeser's not too badly hurt.

And some people here really need to pick a lane, I don't see how he could be "admiring his pass" if it's not a late hit. In that case, he's still in the process of making the pass.
Or it is a late hit and he maybe he should have been moving his focus from the pass to the next action he intends to make.
Still a head shot either way, though.

A suspension will indeed be incoming. That's a dirty hit.
Stunned none of the Canucks even got in his face about it. Didn't want that smoke I guess.
What smoke? For a bloke that's a dipshit and gets his ass beat by Gudbranson, Schenn twice, Reaves and another geriatric fighter in Foligno? He's a plug that Tampa once grossly overpaid for based on a fluke 41pt season. He threw a dirty hit and then the play moved on and when it was whistled dead, refs skated up to Tanner pretty quick.

He should have been suspended for his hit on Zub, a shame McEwan didn't give him a bigger beat down before he dropped like a turd. Who else was gonna fight him? He was thrown out quickly and it was 10mins into the game. Soucy? He's the worst fighter in the league, Desharnais didn't get a chance since Jeannott was booted and after Desharnais it's Joshua that would be the best bet and he's not back yet. I'm sure he will be ready for the next game.

And even if he was "admiring his pass", how in the everloving f*** would it be his fault that some idiot goon blindsides him in the head? This mentality is just so stupid.
If he’s not watching his pass, maybe he sees the reckless chucklehead coming a split second sooner. Idk if that’s enough time to protect himself or avoid the worst of it or not. Bad hit should be disciplined, regardless

Throwing hits like this can cause life long concussion issues. Just because the league doesn't seem to give a shit about that doesn't mean that calling for a suspension that long isn't warranted.
The NHL - CTE isn't real.
NHLPA recently - We've created a committee about CTE.

Clean hit.

Brock makes a pass and then DRAGS HIS SOFA into the middle of a busy highway so he can relax and watch his it slide down the ice. OPENS a bag of CHIPS and gets through about HALF of it before, INEVITABLY, a passing truck RUNS right through his pop-up LIVING ROOM.

Pisses me off too. Ever since Eye Bags neutered the team in the fall of 2010, they haven't been a tough group.,Sure they had Bieksa, Glass, Kassian and Sestito but they ran all those guys out of town. Then Elmer the Drunk came to town and he was a butter soft player and iced a shitty and butter soft team. I guess they had Dorse and Prust to wrestle the odd guy for a bit. Still too soft for my liking.
Wtf are you on about mate? That's some weird take.

In the last 5 seasons they've had a few that could really fight and that's not naming some that were just physical players: They've had MacEwan, Joshua, Desharnais, Roussel, Schenn, Myers, Lafferty, etc.

I'm not sure I've seen a King player do so much dumb and pointless shit AND lose so many fights in a one month period in my entire fandom.

He's a terrible player, and almost every hit he actually lands is a bad one, presumably because he's trying so hard to hit ANYTHING as he's always chasing the play.

Lol with the victim blaming. He had his head up and was focused on the play.

You don't expect a guy to come from behind your line of vision and throw a headshot on you.
If you’re an actual NHLer, you probably should!

Shit, I’ve even seen it happen a bunch throughout my shitty hockey career (even recently in my beer league).

You don’t want to encourage injuries, but you also don’t want to take away even more physicality from this game.

The game moves at milliseconds at a time with the quality of today’s players.

Don’t get me wrong…that hit was dirty, but not as dirty as some are making it out to be!

Bro could have potentially taken a skate blade to the neck or face there. Ouch.

You had a good reply previously for your current reply.

Oh right...

This is an extremely dumb take.

ovb not his fault but pads and helmets aren't some magical armor that protects you in bubblewrap

Not saying he was admiring his pass in this instance but the general trend the last 10 years or so of many young players having very little awareness of incoming hits in the fastest sport on feet can have some very serious consequences

Whether it's kids not being taught this coming up, or not spending time in AHL where hitting is prevalent, or whatever, there seems to be some players who think they won't be hit
just b/c they're not eligible to be hit; that mentality can find you in a wheelchair even if it's not your fault

We had no one to make Jeannot pay the price last night, but what we did have was Luke Schenn a couple of nights earlier:
