Would love Tanev in TO, but there just isn't a deal that works. Anything we would do would be Players like JVR/Kadri for defensive help....that doesn't work for Vancouver. Toronto won't be dealing youth or picks at this point.

JVR for Tanev straight up. Tanev is great and all but so is JVR. The difference between the two players is NOT Gardiner

heck
The Canucks are not in a position to give up anything of value for JVR. We're a very bad team that's in desperate need for a very long rebuild. JVR is a UFA in a couple of years and he won't help our team much.

Avs need top 6 talent, they have plenty of depth D.

PS

If Vancouver wants to throw Virtanen our way on the cheap (don't see hwy they would) I don't see any deal that makes sense from Avs POV.

Yeah, it was a question without a question mark.

Way too much from Toronto.

Also not a fan of Virtanen at all. Hockey IQ is just way too low to be a regular NHL player.

Yet he is one of the most defensively responsible players on our team, last year and so far this year too, it's amazing that he can do with such a low hockey IQ:sarcasm:

Oh ok if you say so. lol

Maybe he's saying that because the Avs have Barrie and EJ as RHD and Duchene is the leading scorer. Maybe remember that a trade should help both sides.

JVR + Gardiner +2nd in 17 (leafs choice as they have 3)

For

Virtanen + Tanev + 3rd in 17

Don't think that's enough tbh

I don't think it's awful either as an outsider. I think there's something to work with tbh.

Too much from Toronto.

Don't say that often..

Liferleafer is right. There's no deal to be made here. Canucks need youth and would be asking for guys like Marner/Nylander. That's gonna happen. JVR doesn't do anything for Vancouver. A guy who's just gonna walk as a UFA does nothing for the rebuild. Gardiner is a lateral swap at best. I like Kadri, but we can't trade Tanev for a 2C type. We need upside.

Let's just move on.

There is a deal, but not many Leafs fans would be ok with it.

2017 1st (top 5 protected)+ Bracco/Dermott + 2018 SJ 2nd (if we make the playoffs this year or it's a top 5 pick and make it next year when the pick transfers.

In terms of value, it's pretty close for both sides.

But as a Canucks fan, it doesn't fit our needs. There isn't a deal here. We need a future core. We need high-end upside young players. We need AAA prospects. That's not a slight to guys like Bracco and Dermott who I think are pretty good. But we have prospects of that calibre (not as many as the Leafs, but still). We need the Marner/Nylander calibre prospects. We need that extra top-five pick. We absolutely cannot trade Tanev for less than that.

It's not something we can do. And understandably Leafs fans will not want to give up a Marner/Nylander/top-five pick.

So there just isn't anything that can get done here.

No thank you. Too many small pieces, and the way Benning drafts I don't think that 1st will be used effectively.

Conversation ends. Is Tanev worth it? Maybe. Are the Leafs in a position to trade 1st round picks? Nope.

Again...no deal that works for both teams.

Not condoning the deal, but aren't Nucks fans praying for a true rebuild? A deal like this is exactly the type that would signify the start of a rebuild.

Fair enough, but you do know that Nylander was an 8th overall right? I would think that pick falls around 8th-12. That's the AAA prospect in the deal. Well chance of one. Slam dunk AAA's don't get traded in a Tanev level deal

There is one small piece, one huge one. That doesn't invalidate the huge one.

Most tired trope on the board. The only time a team "isn't in a possession to trade firsts" is when their prospect pool is depleted. A 1st round pick is just a player with x probability of reaching y talent level with the added benefit of cost control. In a smart deal for a key piece of commensurate value any draft pick is available at any time. See Andersen. F. As long as it's got that top 5 protection (because in all likelihood any trade wouldn't be for a player worthy of Patrick/ Liljegren.
