We have been hitting second round picks lately. Kind of sucks to give 2 up today.
NTC...Wouldve rather taken Marchand for the conditional 2nd/1st in 2027 instead of Tanev for the 2027 2nd, but I don't hate the pickup, just the value.
Pretty much exactly that. The only stat the stands out as mediocre about the Jets season so far is a 16th ranked penalty kill. Anything that can help improve that for the playoffs is a positive. He'll kill penalties. Same as Schenn. Probably the main reason they were both acquired.

No thanks. Both Toffoli and Monahan were too slow in the playoffs last year. Marchand looked every bit his 36(?) years old in the 4 Nations. Old and slow.Wouldve rather taken Marchand for the conditional 2nd/1st in 2027 instead of Tanev for the 2027 2nd, but I don't hate the pickup, just the value.
I was hoping it would be a 3rd or 4th since his cap hit is high, but I’m super pumped to have Tanev back on the Jets. He’s what our bottom 6 and PK needed, and he is made for playoff hockey.
A couple of years ago, I did a study on 2nd round draft picks. I think 67% make it to the NHL (play in one game), and only 33% play in over 200 games, and most of those are the higher selected players (#33-48). We have to consider that the Jets 2nd round pick can be 64th overall. if the win the cup, and I believe no higher than 60th overall. The only players who made an impact as #64 pick, in the last 20 years, were Trocheck (2011), and Barrie (2009).As much as I love Brandon Tanev and what he brings, a 2nd round pick for a 33 year old 3rd/4th liner who’s a UFA is a big overpay.
I think he fits well on this aggressive forechecking team, but we can’t continue to give away our future in my opinion.
I love how great Chevy is in all aspects, except at the trade deadline.
Looked the exact same to me....I like Tanev. Is he the same player he was when he was last with the Jets? Or has he slowed down? He's 33 now.
He is an on ice leader. Sets an example and the pace. How can you not be inspired playing alongside?Technically, this is the last year of Tanev's 6 year/$3,5 AAV contract. Ioved Tanev when he was a Jet. I thought he was a work horse, and surprised many, when he really got into gear. At the time, the contract that he signed with Pittsburgh was too much, but I'm glad he is back. Perhaps the Jets can negotiate with him this summer, and sign him to a 3 year deal at a more affordable contract.
And he's one of those guys that when things aren't going well, he will get out there and drag the team into the fight. He is an on ice leader. Sets an example and the pace. How can you not be inspired playing alongside?
I hope Schenn is another one who plays with his heart on his sleeve. Do not know much about the player, but I heard he drops the gloves when it comes to it.And he's one of those guys that when things aren't going well, he will get out there and drag the team into the fight.
Really, right now, we only have Lowry and Jomo that do that. Buff used to be the king of that and even Wheeler when he was younger.
Yeah i think he's going to take a lot of pressure off AdamI hope Schenn is another one who plays with his heart on his sleeve. Do not know much about the player, but I heard he drops the gloves when it comes to it.
He looked good yesterday.I like Tanev. Is he the same player he was when he was last with the Jets? Or has he slowed down? He's 33 now.
Gotta pay to playWe have been hitting second round picks lately. Kind of sucks to give 2 up today.
I have preached this for years when people cry over 2nd round picks but always for more talented players, ie Toffoli that had 26 goals in 61 games at the time of the trade. Look at the history and odds of them actually working out. That being said this was still an overpay. Unlikely a 2nd draft pick works out but still was way more than we needed to give up. I think Chevy really wanted him and caved. But I think people will forget all about the 2nd round pick when they see his constant energy levels picking up the team when we need it. But you could have packaged that 2nd with something in the offseason for a bigger return on something.A couple of years ago, I did a study on 2nd round draft picks. If we were to look at the Jets alone from 2011-20, 8 players were selected in the 2nd round. Only Jansen Harkins has played over 200 games, although Samberg, and Gustafsson will probably eclipse that mark soon enough. Torgersson, Lundmark, and Sutter never played an NHL game.
