He left his feet when making the hit. Textbook Charging.
And he slammed his opponent into the boards violently. Textbook Boarding
5 minute major. Game misconduct.

Properly called and assessed.

Deliberate intent to injure? I don't believe so. And how would it be proved anyways.

Now the Bettman NHL is going to demand that a statement must be made that this type of physical play will not be tolerated.

I recall a few years ago Kucherov deliberately took out Sobotka's knee in a game in Sweden and never was held accountable. Sobotka never played again.

I remember Steve Moore getting crushed into the boards by Rob Blake. Moore never played again. Nothing was done.

Todd Bertuzzi....? I could go on.....

Steinburg? Who'se he? Let's make an example of this nobody.

I don't believe Steinburg will change his style of play. Nor should he.
Rob Blake? What!?

Did they say specifically what made contact with Cernak's head? It looked to me like his head was whiplashed into the glass.
Yes they did and you can clearly see head contact prior to Cernak’s head hitting the glass.

This was simply a bad and dumb hit. Not the worst or close to it… but very clearly suspension worthy.

I think they meant Peter Mueller, but maybe they exist in a alternate reality where it was Blake, not Bertuzzi that ended Moore's career
Okay, that I can see. To be fair, Mueller was one hard check away from being done even if it had been done legally but yes, Blake's check was pretty dirty IIRC.

The one that doesn't get talked about enough is my all-time favorite Av Matt Hunwick slamming the head of his former Bruins teammate Marc Savard into the glass, ending his career. And yes, his career was hanging on by a thread at that point anyway but Hunwick never laid a big hit on ANYONE during his time, then just happened to choose to hit a guy in the head? Ugh...

Anyway, I digress. Stienburg is doin' the time and hopefully learns a bit better balance because the previous hit on Zemgus Girgenssons was f***in' AWESOME.

The Blake check was what started the Mueller concussion issues, I can't remember him having significant issues with that previously.

IIRC he had one with Arizona prior and one in the Dub that was known. As with most hockey players, they've had more than were diagnosed though.

The best thing Mueller ever did for himself was getting over to play in Europe. Not nearly as many issues there in this area, and from there he's had a pretty decent career.

LOL Naw........ I just don't have total recall like some of you guys. Now that you've reminded me, it was Mueller that Blake too out and Bertuzzi on Moore.

Thanks for the history lesson.

Oh he definitely had concussion issues before that, you could see it in the way he played, I've never seen a player avoid contact more than he did.
In contrast to Cernak, who has had a few concussions in the NHL, and still doesn't seem to keep his head up or move out of the way. I hope he's okay after the Steinburg hit, never good to see head injuries

My sentiments exactly. He left his feet and used his ass to make contract... and did NOT make contact with the head.

Sure, Steinburg lept into the check. So boarding and charging. Those are the calls. Forsberg regularly used to use his ass to take out people but his skates didn't leave the ice.

The NHL Disciplinary Guru is inept and oh so very consistently, inconsistently situational.
It's a clean hit if he doesn't leave his feet. There was no contact with the head

There was very clear contact to the head. How do people not see this?!

If Stienburg stayed on his feet, he hits Cernak through the chest. Maybe it is a 2 minute charge are worst, but probably doesn't get called. There would be zero chatter about it because it wouldn't be jumping into Cernak's head.
