GDT: Tampa at Buffalo: Who Gets Cheap Shotted Tonight? April 4, 2025; 7:00 pm EDT

Who wouldn't believe me 2 weeks ago when I said they are going to do their typical end of the season heroic run to 7OA, wasn't it you @Chainshot 🫠

They've had one such run in five years until this one - the year they wound up missing by 1 point. My point stands - it doesn't happen the way people are making out and them being shitty in the underlying metrics points to this being a heater by a couple players (Reimer, Quinn) than any sort of sustainable success.

Reimer's heater is EASILY the #1 reason we're on this 6-1 stretch. Dude's flat-out stolen at least 3 of those 6 games.

The Tage/Dahlin core has ended each of the last 4 seasons on a hot streak in the standings.

21-22: 16-9-3
22-23: 9-2-1
23-24: 15-10-2
24-25 9-4-0, with 7 games still remaining (6-1-0 in their last 7)

I think our shooting % is a bigger factor than the goaltending.

Since March 23rd when this 6-1-0 stretch began:

#1 in the league shooting % of 19.43% (2nd place is at 16%). We're basically putting 1 out of every 5 shots into the back of the net.

Reimer has a .911 during this stretch, which is impressive behind this sieve of a defense. He has made some really good and timely saves. And sort of stole both Ottawa games. But he also had a .828 against WSH. But it didn't matter because we shot 31.8% against WSH.

CF% 40.38% 32nd in the league
xGF% 40.61% 30th in the league
HDSF% 40.54% 29th

Benson has been so good with Thompson. Kid desperately needed an opportunity with some good players.
I just watched the highlights, and man is he a menace. The motor never quits and his IQ is off the charts. Reminds me a bit of Martin St. Louis minus the electric skating ability. I've read comparisons to Marchand, and that seems more accurate.

Edit.

Can they please give up on McLeod peterka Quinn. Only line to get out shot, and were outscored 0-2.

The line doesn't work outside of random food finishes which JJ and Quinn can ideally do away from each other

Not sure I would call taking 16 out of 28 or 15 out of 27 games hot streaks, but I agree with you on your other points.

Hot streak in points % in comparison to the rest of the season they occurred in.

16-9-3 is .625. They went .370 before that
15-10-2 is .593. They went .482 before that

.625 and .593 are playoff pace.

.370 is bottom 3 pace
.482 is bottom 8 pace

They played at playoff pace for the final 1/3rd of each of these seasons after playing themselves out of it in the first 2/3rds. Is it as hot as going 7-1-0? No. But is it hot in comparison to bottom 3 or bottom 8 pace? Yes
