Watching him handle the puck at the blue line is a masterful art that brings a tear to my eye and joy to my heart.

at this point we all have to hope he starts to play really well... then resist the temptation to fall in love with him again and move him immediately when he has some false value.

you think were the only ones to see the huge gaping holes in his game ?

he continues to showcase his sloth like reflexes.

he just isnt anything more than a 3rd pair guy.

Sooner or later the Del Zotto apologists need to wake up. This guy is not the answer to our pmd woes. Name one top offensive dman in the league who took five years to figure things out. This is who he is.

With thread titles like this, its no wonder everyone on these boards thinks he is obsolete. Del Zotto is not a bad player but he has his limitations and they need to stop playing him on the right.

Del Zotto IS a bad player... So many little mistakes, so many lazy moves, so many absent-minded decisions... The guy is completely braindead when it comes to playing on the blue line... He might be good offensively, but he should consider either playing wing so he isn't as responsible defensively, or figure out his game... The only reason he is on our third pairing is because our 7th DMan is Justin Falk...

He should spend the summer, no, he should spend EVERY summer taking 500 shots and try to hit the ****ing net. It's awful.

Don't forget the shots into the opponents shin guards, too

Del Zotto has been a top 4 defender for the Rangers for the majority of last several years. Del Zotto is the kind of player that when he messes up it is glaring. Torts was a great coach at hiding players weaknesses. AV, well, I don't know what he is good at besides chewing gum. Del Zotto definitely has value, yes I feel he should be traded but I don't think he is a bad player, he just needs to be used correctly.

I've been paying close attention to him for a few seasons (haven't been a die hard ever really)... He was OK in the 11-12 playoffs, and his game has dropped off severely since then.

Above Average speed
Horrific shooting accuracy
Lazy pass plays
Uneducated guesses/decisions on the ice
Cannot play under pressure with the puck

I mean, he must have killed the momentum of the zone forecheck about 6 or 7 times in this game on his OWN... not to mention his horrific "stick check" when he was chasing down the flyers offense on the shorthanded goal... Staal or Girardi would have dove at the players stick... Del Zotto stuck his hands out like he had a fishing pole hanging over a boat...

It's THOSE things... He looks lost, confused, and stupid with the puck... If after 5 pro years this guy still has these issues, he either needs a change of scenery, or to straight up retire... Moore has looked better in EVERY aspect, except MAYBE stick handling.... Everything else (Shot speed/accuracy, skating ability, decision making) is MUCH, MUCH better...

Honestly, I see Moore in the 2nd pairing in a few years

Good post.

I think Moore offers more than Del Zotto also.

Now what I have noticed about Del Zotto is he always starts the season off bad and ends the season off bad. I think he has some conditioning issues as well. Del Zotto is such a weird player. I nether get the MDZ hate nor the MDZ love, and would absolutely look to trade him. I have a lot of players on the trade block though.

Officially done with him....I think the emergence of John Moore made Del Zotto expendable, it's time to see what kind of market there is for him to get some offensive help.

The play towards the end of the game where he stretched his stick out to keep it in at the blue line and missed was just so beyond lazy.....Move Your Feet!

Too slow and not a good decision maker.

One of the most noticeable changes in Del Zotto from the start of his time with the Rangers is his passing. He use to constantly try for the home run pass through the middle of the ice and connect leading to breakaways or odd man rushes for the Rangers. Now he never does that and when he tries his pass misses the mark. Pretty sure he's had that coached out of him and that's a shame.

I'd trade him tomorrow if I was in charge. We can't let him flounder away and then be worthless- may already be too late.

Duncan Keith, but that's neither here nor there.

Comfort zone player. He's out of his comfort zone and looks like crap. Too much pressure and John Moore breathing down his neck. He needs a fresh start somewhere else.

This why I said trade him now. There are some who still thinks he has upside. Perhaps including some GMs. You don't wait forever to trade him because by that time, everyone will know this is who he is.

Send him & Boyle to Vancouver.:)

He can be a good player. He doesn't belong on the right side. That pushes him outside his comfort zone right there. Not that there's a lot of ice time for him on the left side.

You don't trade him for just anything. He's worth a good return. A legit top 6 scorer or a younger forward with a good shot at being a top 6 forward for instance--maybe even a little more. In the right situation he could really help a team.

His rookie year, he got away with that pass a lot. His sophomore year, defenders caught on and he still tried to force it, ending up in a lot of turnovers.

Right now I see him as a defensive Dubinsky. He has the talent, but he always seems to be in between. He hasn't figured out what his game is at this level.

We need to call Colorado and convince them to take Del Zotto in a package for Downie.

id love Downie but i wouldnt trade Del Zotto for an UFA to be, unless he will agree to an extension before the trade..

Rangers need more emotion on this team
