Welcome CT.

I was high on your chances the Traverse prior to last, when you already showed NHL calibre lightning fast glove. Advocated if return good enough, move Biron, get something + promote. While we didn't score that extra trade swag, I'm happy you worked hard at the rest of your game.

And now you're here. Welcome to NHL/NYR.

Thanks for making me look good.

After all, for every Chris Kredier, JT MIller and Cam Talbot, I'll always have Tysen Dowzak to keep me humble.:naughty::D:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Don't sell yourself short, you have much more non-smart stuff in your posting history than just Dowzak.

Can't believe I'm saying this but if Cam played last night we would have gotten at least one point...

Maybe. Lundqvist got beat bar-down on a two-on-one and through the legs on a breakaway. Not soft goals by any stretch of the meaning. Some posters are saying the Rangers lack finish, which in general may be true, but Rask stole that game for the Bruins.

Can't really blame Hank but he could have stopped both, especially Thorton's wrist shot to the short side, he went down too early

Another lousy performance by Talbot tonight. Let's hope he can improve on his 1.32 GAA and .949 SV%. Really needs to pick up his game after Thanksgiving.

====================================================================================================

Talbot must be stunned to find out that hockey does not involve breakaways, 2-on-1 or slap shots from 2 feet out of the crease every other minute (literally). That's been his experience in both Hartford and Alabama.

From the Talbot thread last February, which was just closed as I was typing this response:

i think now should the time to draft a goalie.. what if Lundqvist has a freak accident like Blackburn during the offseason... its always good to have a backup plan.... Rangers should draft a goalie in 2013...

Talbot seems like a very solid backup plan.

Stajcer seems to have made a very big improvement in his game as well. Between those two, I don't see any need to use high picks on goalies unless they are clearly and by far the BPA. Why "clearly and by far"? Because goalies tend to bust the most. Furthermore, an average forward (2-3 line) is very valuable, but your average goalie (a high-end backup) is a dime a dozen. You don't want to waste a bunch of draft picks and wind up with Cloutier, Hirsch, Hellerbrand, Ram, Shepard, Trofimenkoff, Yeremeyev and Heil. Nothing there is worth 8 picks, including a first rounder.

Did I read correctly? PIM not only wants to trade the best goalie since the lockout in the NHL and potential HOFer in his prime (which I can SOMEWHAT understand the logic behind), but wants to do it for a good but not great winger in Evander Kane? Is this the real life?

Well the first part is subjective. I personally think Niemi and Rinne are better than Hank, and I think as he matures Quick will be better too. But I digress.

First, Hank is on a deal that's about to expire and rapidly inflate. Kane is locked up until 2018 on a 5.25m cap hit, less than Hank currently makes and much less than he'll be making next year.

Second, Kane is 22 and Hank is 31. That's almost another decade of mileage.

Third, Kane adds three things we desperately need- a legitimate top 6 left wing, grit and scoring. As it stands right now, our only potential legit top 6 left wing is Kreider and he's still a question mark, though he's been looking much better. Nash plays better on the right side and Hagelin is more of a middle six than a top 6 talent.

Kane is a natural scorer, he plays physical, he's fast, he's young, he's signed for quite a while. His production rate increases every year and he hasn't come close to peaking yet. He addresses big concerns that stand between us and the cup. All the makings of a future elite player who desperately needs a change in scenery and would thrive in NY. Hank is a 31 year old pending UFA. Let's be pragmatic here.

Don't see how Niemi and Rinne are better than Hank. If Quick regains his 2011 form, then he's right there with Hank (he's slightly behind right now, though).

Second, I like Kane, but Hank for him..just no. Granted, I think it's a slump and he'll easily bounce out of it, but look at how he's played this season. Almost identical to Del Zotto (who I also feel is in a slump at the moment). I wouldn't trade Hank for him, but I would definitely inquire about Kane (who knows what the Jets would want for him, though).

They'd want McDonagh realistically. To which the answer is a resounding no. If it weren't for Kane slumping I doubt he'd be anywhere near trade discussions, and honestly I doubt Hank is even a fit since they have so many other holes, but in a perfect world.

Hank is pretty easily the best goalie since the lockout, if you look at consistency. This season he's not the best. But since the lockout, I think it's pretty easy to say. I guess Rinne is there too. Either way, Evander Kane is not so good to trade Hank for him. Decline or no decline and I'm one of his biggest critics.

You can make an argument for Quick or Rinne today… I'd personally put Quick/Hank as a virtual tie for #1 and Rinne at #3. A close #3. Niemi is very good, but not in their class in my opinion. I'd easily put Lehtonen over Niemi.

Hence, subjective. :)

Did you see my list-of-logic supporting why it would be better for the Rangers as a whole?

To summarize.

1.) Kane currently has a $5.25m cap hit and he's locked up for 5 years. Hank is about to crack Rinne money, I'm guessing in the form of a $7.5m cap hit for a very long time. For a consistently cap crunched team like the Rangers and the number of players going FA next year, that's a big deal.

2.) Kane is one year shy of being a decade younger than Hank. To put it in perspective, that's the difference between Hank and Brodeur's ages right now. Kane will be in the middle of his prime while Hank is about to retire.

3.) Kane is a physical, fast, natural scoring top 6 left wing. This is something we're sorely lacking. Our only potential legitimate top 6 LW as of now is Chris Kreider, and he's still a question mark. Kane adds a plethora of things that we desperately need, not the least of which is scoring goals.

If Cam were in net, this game is likely not as ugly, but he did give up 1 goal on like 3 shots. He didn't do anything solid tonight. Nor did he do anything bad.

Oh come on. Cam probably would've done just as bad if not worse with this defense tonight. He probably saves the first goal, but maybe he gives up another weak one.

The defense wasn't great but I think that first goal contributed to it. Must be tough to be an offensively challenged team and have the goalie you rely on so much give away a goal. Not an excuse, but I felt like someone punched me in the stomach and kicked me in the balls. I can only imagine what the team felt. I don't think any of the other 3 were soft, but Lundqvist faced amazing opportunities all game against Dallas and allowed one goal that wasn't a double deflection. He can't be THAT goalie all the time. The point is, it's not impossible to make some of those saves and it's not like against Dallas in the first period where we sat in our zone the entire game, he just didn't make big stops. Cam's been good enough that I trust we lose this game 3-0 if he's in and that's not counting momentum. We'd still lose but I don't feel like I got ***** slapped.

let's be straight up...

In Hanks Contract year, he is not performing like he should be, while his backup on an ELC is playing a solidified game behind the same team...

Something has to give. Either Talbot is a fluke, or Hank is never going to be the Vezina Caliber goalie he was 2 seasons ago ever again

Hank for Evander Kane. New York is now Talbot Town. Get on board everybody!

On a 2-1, that Del Zotto royally screwed him on. Might as well have just let the pass through so Cam could read the play. Talbot is 110% innocent on that one.

Hank got burned like a toolbag several times tonight, not the least of which is the first goal of the game. The second goal I wouldn't expect Talbot to stop, but the "Best Goalie King of NY!11!zsZ in teh Worldz!" I expect to keep his team in the game that early, stopping that goal is what he makes elite money for.
