Buffalo isn't trading Thompson unless they feel like the move makes them better in both the short and long term.

ie. you'd have to give up a similarly valued young piece plus something meaningful to make it worth it for buffalo.

He's what people thought Phil Kessel was before the cups without being nearly as good
Who cares what his playing style is or what his minuses are. He's still 1C in a shitty team at almost PPG pace and 50 goals per season, he has his pluses.

Gezz Thompson is overrated

Dach + Hage + MTL first 2026 or CGY first 2025 would be my best offer

27 years old player with 1 ppg season under his belt is worth Suzuki, a very likely top 5 1st and ANOTHER untouchable asset, to MAYBE get the Sabres attention?

That's like 3 times the value Buffalo got for Jack Eichel who led Vegas to a cup.
You're asking a man dying of thirst in the desert for his last bottle of water. Yes, that is what it would take.

I would happily pay our top F prospect and two firsts from the Jets to get Tage.

Lambert/Yager/Chibrikov + 2025 First + 2026 First (top 5 protected)

I'd even throw in Stanley so you can keep a token tall guy in the lineup after trading Tage.

Firstly you don't have Calgary's first. You likely still have Florida's.

Secondly, that's awful for Buffalo. Trading Thompson for a bunch of lesser pieces?

If Buffalo is trading Thompson, it's for a full rebuild, which makes no sense with Dahlin and Power in place. Buffalo just needs to play better and build a better team around their young players. Trading their #1 centre in his prime would be an awful move, unless it's for a slightly younger #1 centre who is going to be just as good.
