Just a bit. As well as the faux victim complex for Tage’s persecution. I think like 2 people in total think he won’t be good eventually. Just not today.

Proven to be ready for a playoff team.., you kill me Layne!!
It's not like Thompson is or ever was some can't miss prospect. Not turning into anything is the likely outcome.

Adding muscle weight doesn't slow a player down. Eichel is a good 10 pounds heavier with muscle, and he's fine.

The leg weight from muscle helps when a player goes from a neutral stance to a full stride extension. It'll also help him balance, which will assist in using his edges. Both will make him faster/quicker.

I agree. From my experience with hockey and I could be totally wrong, any body fat weight slows me down and even upper body muscles does a little too, but leg muscles makes me much faster.

I think Thompson has a higher ceiling than maybe others think but it's just more of a question of if he can throw it all together to reach his potential. Maybe a 25-35 player.

Would like to see consistency in his game. You notice him doing good things when he gets more time/better linemates..but then he tails off after a couple good performances. Then he gets demoted, then you barely notice him. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I hope next year he establishes himself. The talent is undeniable and he's got a wicked shot. Would like to see him think the game a little smoother.

Last night was his best game as a Sabre. He was all over the ice. I wish they would have given him time on the ice during the 5-3. His stick handling and passing was on point last night.

Like others have said though, he needs to be more consistent.

Thompson is a big boy who can skate, shoot and dangle. He will be a solid 15- 20 goal scorer in the middle 6 as soon as next year.

Thompson has never been a big ES point producer at any level.

If he hits the 15-20 goal mark, it will be on the back of PP production.

It will be interesting to see if he can get the PP time to produce at that clip.

On Saturday, the Buffalo Sabres will play their second game without captain Jack Eichel. They beat Florida 4-3 Thursday night at the Key Bank Center. Saturday's game will be in Boston.

Defenseman Zach Bogosian told 2 On Your Side's Stu Boyar the win over Florida was important.

"Its huge, you can't replace a player like Jack what he brings on and off the ice. I just think that we have to step up. Teams are going to hit adversity, this is one thing for us. We have to have guys step up and play bigger roles. That was one game we got to continue to keep doing that but you can't replace a guy like Jack."

I never played organized hockey, but I feel his stride is abnormally short for someone with his height and inferred inseam. So, while I'm probably taking out of my ass, I can see where you're coming from.

His quick release is deadly. Sabres in O-zone last night (home vs. Panthers) on the left of the broadcast screen, Sobotka in the far corner, throws the puck to TT in the right (far) faceoff circle, and TT launches a laser in like 0.01 seconds.

Thompson would go great with Eichel. His early season awfulness has passed and he’s more responsible now. Time to see it.
That quick release reminds me of Richard Martin on the PP, parked in the faceoff circle. Bam-bam from Perreault into the net by Martin.

There’s an air of player development taking place in Rochester and Buffalo... like no joke.

Thompson will end of being an interesting player to watch over the next couple of years.

Having him on a line with Jack is intriguing.

For me, outside of Skinner and, perhaps Eichel, Thompson has been the biggest positive surprise on the team. Dahlin being the biggest disappointment - yet all I hear is people raving about the guy. He must have been awesome in the two games I missed because he has been a hot mess in the games I've seen. He sees the ice terribly and don't get me started on his defensive instincts. His decisions with the puck and his horrible gap control are not getting better.

I expected little from Thompson and, frankly, think has been one of the most interesting surprises. His amazing shot is becoming a little bit predictable imho. He needs to develop a few more ways to put the puck in the net. For a huge guy he has very good hands. Maybe he can use that wing span in the slot in an Andreychuck-esque way.

Read the GDT’s of Dahlin’s first 30 games. :thumbu:

Then read those same GDT’s for Thompson comments.

Not sure about his post, but I will say I do like Thompson.

Makes me reasonably satisfied with the O'Reilly trade considering we have picks too.
I love what Thompson CAN be. The dude looks like a superstar one minute the problem is he doesn't look NHL ready the next.

If he can put it together the guy will be a stud.

If he puts it together would be a 30 goal scorer maybe more. His shot is top notch and he can stick handle and make dekes that I don't even see Eichel making.

He needs to figure out when to shoot, when to pass and when to deke. I think that comes with experience.

The reason I like Thompson and KNOW he's a keeper is that he comes with skills you can't teach. Great hands, shot playmaking potential

His deficiencies, the way I see it, can all be improved upon. General speed and energy need to be upped a notch and can be if he works on the right things

He's young. He's a keeper. I would have him glued to Reinhart personally, but for some reason Sabres seem intent on being a one line team.

Bizarre really

One trick pony, hopefully he can be moved soon before the rest of the league figures that out. Hands are average, fumbles the puck too often when in close. Can’t see his linemates. Soft.

If we move on from him at 21 years old, with what I've seen so far, we have some serious problems organizationally.

Thompson's biggest problem is that his hands get him in trouble too often. He makes a few good moves and either loses the puck just because his head moves quicker than his body, or because he did one too many moves/took a second too long and an errant stick knocked it off of him.

I'm not sure if the answer is for him to do that stuff less (I hope not since the team needs that kind of talent and creativity) or just pick better spots to do it... but I like that he CAN do it. And that he CAN have good games just from his talent alone. Might just be a matter of getting more experience under his belt to learn how to read situations/pace better. Which may be why they're pushing him staying in Buffalo, since he needs to figure out the NHL pace and how to read NHL players.

Thompson might be valuable a few years down the road if this team is stacked if we are lucky. He might be a Kotalik lite. Otherwise he is the definition of "meh"

I could be remembering wrong, but I don't think Kotalik had anywhere near Thompsons hands... outside of the shootout maybe. Not to mention Thompson's biggest asset could end up being his size/reach.

The definition of meh
ERod
Sobotka
Pominville
Okposo
Smith
Wilson

Average players can't make the moves I have seen Thompson make. Above average players cant. He was our best player in preseason yes it was preseason but if he can put it together he scores 30 in this league.

Maybe people should watch some highlights. Average players in the league for 10 years don't have moves Thompson made.
