Brodie has been a phenomenal defenseman for the flames for the last two seasons, garnering accolades from around the league and even a few norris votes the last couple of seasons. While not particularly physical, TJ has one of the most fluid skating strides in the league, excellent positioning, good stick work, and is one of the best breakout passers in the league. All of this in a defenseman who is only 26 and is signed for the next 3 seasons at only 4 million.

Brodie does not fit our new system. He has lost his mojo with the flames. While some see his recent struggles as indicative of poor coaching (hard to argue in some respects) I think even if we see a coaching change in calgary the same style will be preached (top down, this is a burkie and Treliving built team). Hamilton is a better fit, and I think Gio has been coming around recently (players seem to improve when paired with him, in contrast to brodie this year).

What would your team be willing to give up for a defenceman of Brodie's Caliber? The flames need immediate help on the wings and would require a warm body to slot in on the second pairing to replace Brodie (we would be very weak on d without him)

My thoughts on value:

Duchene for Brodie

Mantha ++ for Brodie

Reinhart for Brodie

Nylander for Brodie, or Marner for Brodie +

As much as we need offense, if we could get a deal done around Duchene for Brodie I'd think the Avs would be ironing out the details pretty quick.

I've made a thread offering JT Miller + Klein + picks and prospects and wasn't liked by Flames fans. It's just what you're asking for.

How about we don't rip on him too bad until he gets a better partner than Wideman and he adjusts to the new system.

He looks scared to use his offense because he doesn't trust Wideman and he's trying too hard to be a team player. Once he knows when he's supposed to skate, he'll start to look like himself. I just can't imagine that Glenn's system completely disallows Brodie to do what only a handful of guys in the league can do.

I actually replied that I would definitely accept this one. Still would- I think it's a great offer, and I think JT and Johnny would be dynamite together. Klein also gives us a missing defensive dynamic on the back end.

brodie 'doesn't fit our system' because he's stuck babysitting a basically motionless anchor/black hole in wideman. if we trade brodie our primary need is instantly a top pairing defenseman.

hell no to any brodie trade

Brodie has been pretty brutal this season but its probably just a cold stretch. His value is still sky high and I doubt Calgary is trading a youngish #1D

Toronto would be an insanely good fit here. They get a #1D to be Riellys partner (Brodie is better on right). They have a good top pairing from the get go. Nylander would add a ton of skill to Calgary and him and Gaudreau would tear up teams

Toronto also has the depth to handle a Nylander loss. But maybe they could even get away with JVR (maybe Burke still loves him) + 2017 1st

You trade Giordano way before you even think about trading Brodie. You change the coach, and the management team before you even think about trading Brodie.

 what a bizarre thread. A top pairing defenceman for a winger; what a joke. TJ Brodie especially is not going anywhere.

Both Giordano and Hamilton will be traded before him if there was a problem. Heck, more likely Gulutzan is fired than Brodie traded away.

Also, his cap hit is 4.65M :shakehead

Nylander? Sure.

JVR+1st? Sure.

Totally agree here, TJ Brodie would be the last D man that Flames GM Brad Treliving would deal. Giordano and Hamilton would go before Brodie rather easily.

Just play Jokkipakka over Wideman and let Brodie play on the right side.

Gio - Hamilton
Jokkipakka - Brodie
Kulak - Engellend

That's the best defense we've had in ten years. But instead we play Wideman and push Brodie to the left side.

I'd certainly consider a deal around Duchene for Brodie, as long as we had another deal in place for a forward to replace his offense. Most likely Barrie.

Considering that the management team is responsible for deciding what players are there, I think this is false. They would almost certainly trade Brodie before firing themselves.

I think Pacioretty for Brodie would make sense. First, they almost have the same caphit. Second they're both struggling this year and would adress a the other team's need.

I would even add a 2nd rounder to Patches if Flames fans think Brodie is worth more.

From the Jets how does Burmistrov (just to clear him off the roster), any 2 of Armia, Dano, Copp, 1 of Chariot or Postma (just fill the D for Calgary) & a 2nd in 2017 sound?
Lots of moving pieces with the best being the choice of the 2 young forwards & the 2nd.
