Agree. Explains much of the Zegras praise on here. Can't help thinking some of the behind the back, blind passing - while fun to see when it works - may cost this team in crucial spots.
It's not like it was a one night thing or anything, Zegras was pretty good last year too was he not?I didn't notice him costing the team.

Don't want to wade into a turcotte-zegras debate but he's being praised for good reason, he's very skilled, be very glad you have him, as a fan you can live with a messed up play here and there because what he offers the team far outweighs that.

I'll take Zegras's flash all day long. I thought all those penalties in the first totally messed up Finland's game. They had that forecheck frenzy thing going on( a la late 70's Czechoslavakia)in the first few minutes that had the US on their heels.

You still holding on to the take that he's the best player from his draft year?

He doesn't have the it factor. He does stuff well, but rarely wows you. I'm sure he will have a solid NHL career but I just don't see number 1 c potential with him based on what he's shown since getting drafted.

Yes, I am. We’ll see what happens. I have no reason to yet believe it’s any less right than it was at the draft.

Your take was bad regardless, which is why I called it out. It factor is not a real thing. It’s something fans tell themselves to justify their opinions.

And besides, you were commenting on a game after these players hadn’t played since March. You wanted a hot take in a situation that clearly didn’t call for one.

Zegras over Turcotte for me.

Everything Zegras does is beautiful.

What are people seeing about Boldy that is so good? To me, he looks to have nice hands, passing ability, and IQ, but for a bigger guy seems to not be very strong, and his first couple of steps are pretty slow. Not exactly what I'd call dynamic offensively....more sneaky good.

He is just a smart player. I can see some Mark Stone lite comparisons.

No question he is skilled - and may end up being one of the top scorers in the tournament.

But there is a question as to his judgment as to when to use those skills to be effective and when he is simply doing them for looks.

Boldy to me was the opposite of Zegras. The net front presence on the first Caufield goal. Played a sound, less noticeable game but was effective all over the ice.

He could have easily had 4-5 points tonight.

Zegras was outstanding. Beniers was super impressive as well, definitely a player to watch for this upcoming draft. He does a lot of things right and has high end skill, very complete mature game.

Beniers comes from one of the top 5 hockey towns in the
Eastern USA in Hingham, Ma.

Hingham has produced Kurt Walker, Tony Amonte, Marty McInnis, Brian Boyle and countless NCAA D1
players.

Its not a mega suburb like top hockey cities Livonia, Mi or Bloomington, Mn. Probably half the population
of Edina, Mn or Amherst, NY.

Its a top tier US Hockey hotbed though.

Not everyone has the dangling wizardry of Zegras

I like Boldy on the wing vs C. I think Boldy-Beniers-Caufield will work. Bordeleau would help the US with C depth.

Knight handles the puck like Dubnyk. That's not good, folks. He takes it away from his own D, and rims it around the boards to the other team.

I sincerely hope it's just rust with Knight. What I've seen from him in this one game (plus last year's tournament) make me wonder why some called him the "Next Carey Price". He seemed a little hesitant with his puck handling and making should have done better on the Finnish goal.

Let’s all agree on one thing guys, f*** is it ever nice to have hockey back

So good to watch some live hockey!!!!

YEP - woot woot! So glad there's elite hockey to watch.

Yep, and just throw the puck at Knight, I dunno, he looks very average to me from all my viewings.
See above.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. I think the coach should let Zegras be Zegras. Don't force a square peg into a round hole. Just have his teammates be alert to the possibility that his dangles might not always work out in favor of the US and be as ready as they can to provide support.

Not just them. Both of those teams have absolutely sickening prospect pools. Should be fun for everyone except for San Jose.

I was thinking the same thing. I've watched the Sharks since they joined the NHL and wonder why their scouting these past decades has been mediocre to poor! Way back when, they passed on Chris Pronger to take Mike Rathje (I think it was the Rat they took over Pronger) instead. Yes, I realize scouting is an art, not an exact science, but you'd think that over these decades, the scouting department would have hit on ONE freaking home run draft pick! Especially in the early years when the Sharks had higher draft picks.
With shaky goaltending and an aging D Corps, I foresee dark times ahead for Los Tiburones. [Still, if Sharks ever win the Cup, I still plan to attend the victory parade as payoff for all the years of support.]

Whenever i've seen Knight in college he has looked great, so I'll write last night off as an anomaly, even though it wasn't that bad.

I'll give him slack. No game action for awhile and honestly he wasn't tested all that much. Much of the play was in the Finn's end. He's needs to play a little sturdier but I have faith that he will.

Maybe I’m missing something but that’s just a dump and chase

is the Twitter person being sarcastic ?

I think he's stronger than you are giving him credit for. His first couple steps aren't great, but he's really shifty for a bigger forward. His skating is a lot more effective than it initially looks.

With all due respect, don't you think your sample is a little low if thats what you are judging on? He was phenomenal in college hockey last season. He was phenomenal to get drafted as high as he did. I'm not ruling out that he might not be effective in this tournament. If so, it's good that we have Wolf, but I would not question Knight's pedigree.

Our goaltending is one of the things I worry about the least. Knight is the best goalie right now in the tournament.

Button's breakdown was spot on. Caufield has the ability to find openings, like most scorers, he finds open ice and can capitalize. One thing I will disagree on, he did show hustle coming back on the D. Looks like his game could be rounding out.
He looked better defensively than he did in the Wisconsin games I saw this year.
