Nussbaumer out with a concussion. Still more than a month to go. I thought he had a pretty good shot of making the team. Hopefully he'll recover soon.

Let's talk names:
Last year D:
Fora / Geisser / Glauser / Kukan / Loeffel / Marti / Moser / Siegenthaler

If fit I expect Geisser / Glauser / Kukan and Marti to return. Also Loeffel had a good season and is a very reliable D-men, and shoots R.
Siegenthaler has a concussion, we'll see. If fit he'll report, I'm pretty sure. Moser is RFA. I can imagine he'll report, but we'll see.
I don't want to see Fora anymore.

Other names: Bichsel (Depending on Dallas plans), Berni, Müller, Karrer, Frick, Egli, Aebischer, Le Coultre, Baragno, Stadler, Streule. (ordered by possibility of call-up). Leon Muggli has a fantastic season. He'll play U18-WC. Depending on how many injuries we have, you'll never know.

Last year F:
Ambühl, Bertschy, Corvi, Fiala, Haas, Herzog, Hischier, Malgin, Miranda, Nino, Riat, Richard, Senteler, Simion, Thürkauf.

I don't expect Fiala and Nino, both are commited to a deep play-off run.
Ambühl, Idk, his scoring dropped. There will come a time when he has no place anymore. Already this year? I would not be surprised.
Berschty => Lock
Corvi => Lock
Haas => Lock
Herzog => Lock
Hischier => Lock
Malgin => Lock
Miranda => Hm, he had good WC last year, but had a mediocre season. He'll get a call up and gets his chance in the preparation games.
Riat => He's a good player and very versatile so I'm pretty sure he'll be there again.
Richard => Wasn't as strong as last year, he had half the points from last season. He has to prove himself in the preparation games.
Senteler => Very versatile player, too. Behind Riat in terms of skill and offensive production. Depends how many players are available.
Simion => Getting hot in the playoffs again, if he continues like this he's a lock.
Thürkauf => Exceptional season, but tough playoffs. But he's a lock.

Other names:
Kurashev, Meier, Andrighetto, Nussbaumer, Lehmann, Moy, Martschini, Schmutz, Ken Jäger, Scherwey, Fuchs, Bader, Rochette, Simic, Zehnder.

Did I forget someone?
Alatalo, Fazzini, Kessler, Heim, Mottet, Künzle?

Roster for the first week. Looks like Nussbaumer is healthy. Mirco Müller from a first-rounder to not getting a call-up for the first roster. Maybe he's not healthy.

Edit: Corvi is missing. Which is a surprise.

Edit2: Corvi is not fit, was taking pain medication during the full season. It's a blow. But with Haas, Richard, Thürkauf, Malgin and possibly Nico there are enough good centers to choose from.

Torhüter (3): Sandro Aeschlimann (HC Davos), Stéphane Charlin (SCL Tigers), Philip Wüthrich (SC Bern)

Verteidiger (8): David Aebischer (SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers), Tim Berni (Genève-Servette HC), Dominik Egli (HC Davos), Michael Fora (HC Davos), Sven Jung (HC Davos), Samuel Kreis (SC Bern), Simon Le Coultre (Genève-Servette HC), Romain Loeffel (SC Bern)

Stürmer (13): Andres Ambühl (HC Davos), Thierry Bader (SC Bern), Gaëtan Haas (EHC Biel-Bienne), André Heim (HC Ambri-Piotta), Tino Kessler (EHC Biel-Bienne), Mike Künzle (EHC Biel-Bienne), Marco Lehmann (SC Bern), Marc Marchon (EHC Kloten), Tyler Moy (SC Rapperswil-Jona Lakers), Valentin Nussbaumer (HC Davos), Tanner Richard (Genève-Servette HC), Tristan Scherwey (SC Bern), Calvin Thürkauf (HC Lugano)

Müller was asked if he'd play for the national team if called and he said he wasn't sure and would need clearance by his doctor, I guess he didn't get it. I have a hard time believing Kreis would be taken ahead of him (not the first time he is picked for the first roster and he always showed he couldn't cut it at this level). I'd have given Baragano or Karrer, even if he had an underwhelming season, a look over him.

Apart from that, there are a few players I thought would make it, but no obvious snub. Miranda had a poor season, like most Geneva players, although Richard still made it. Praplan on the other hand is surprising. I also think Alatalo had a better season than Aebischer, but he's too error prone and probably wouldn't have made the final roster anyway. Schlegel is probably better than Wüthrich and Charlin, but I guess his long injury ruled him out. JvP didn't play much this year. Simic might have been worth a look. And too bad De Luca gave up on playing for Switzerland.

In the end, Corvi is the only big blow. Still a nice first roster.

He's a versatile player who can play offensive and defensive roles, can play PK and PP, wing and center. That's his big plus.

His scoring has decreased this season. We'll see if it works out in the end.

With Meier, Kurashev, Simion, Herzog, Andrighetto, Bertschy, Riat still 7 pretty proven Wingers which will hopefully fit and available. But he could well end up with another WC.

Iñaki Baragano got a late call up for the first week. Either he was injured or another one of the guys is not completly fit.

Any real opportunity for Sandro or is he just a third goalie to have in camp?

This team will do absolutely nothing with that coaching.

We need a big change, quick.

But yeah people will have plenty of excuses like always.

Won't happen and you know that.

Defense ist most worrying. Kukan, Glauser, Geisser and Siegenthaler need to be healthy. Otherweise it's gonna get ugly.

From this roster Loeffel is convincing. Fora is just bad. Berni had two very, very bad game. I know he's better tough. The rest is a mix of they are here because there are no better options (Kreis, Jung) and they probably need some time but at least one or another gets already the chance this year (Baragano, Le Coultre, Aebischer).

Forward-wise team will change a lot. With hopefully one NHL-line (Meier, Hischier, Kurashev), Herzog and Simion, Bertschy and Malgin, Andrighetto. That's more than half of the forwards.

The Nussbaumer, Lehmann and Kessler line was the most positive aspect of those two games IMHO, altough they didn't score as much as they should have. And I'm pretty sure that Nussbaumer will get a spot.

Guesses for next week:
Berra, Genoni, Geisser, Stadler, Bertschy, Herzog, Simion, Martschini

I couldn't watch the first game against Slovakia, but what was obvious from the 2nd one is that all goals conceded came straight from mistakes by defensemen (with the exception of the empty netter). I have no idea what Berni was doing on the first goal, or Loeffel on the 2nd, or all players on the ice for the 4th goal (why was Kreis so deep in the offensive zone? Why did Loeffel and Haas push forward with no one to cover for them?).

The forwards were a bit better, although I'd say only Thürkauf, Scherwey, Ambühl, Nussbaumer and Lehmann made a good case for themselves. Haas and Moy were disappointing, and the Heim line brought nothing. The lack of consistency over the game was also worrying (as has been the case all season).

I'm not sure any player will be added for next week as the semifinals were supposed to last until today, and the players can use some rest. Then I hope that Berra, Genoni, Geisser, Bertschy, Simion and Herzog will all join. I'd give Gross and Stalder a shot, but I am not convince they can make it. Senteler might be an option to replace Bader or Heim.

On the other hand, I think that Canada's OT goal in 2019 might have been the end of Martschini's WC career.

I forgot Senteler who is an upgrade over Bader or Heim.

Maybe the Zug-guys get the call and Bertschy/Berra get another week. If you want to give Gross/Stadler a shot they'd probably have to be there for the next games.

Can just someone please beat the Preds in the first round?

Well, hard to say what Nashville will do... But yeah, not having Josi on the team since 2019 is tough

He was there for the two medals we got, we badly need his leadership. Also, we where so close to make it to the semi in 2019, since that we have been bad in every quarter we played unfortunately.

Nah I wan't Nashville to make a run for the cup. It might be Josis last real chance to crown his NHL career with the ultimate price. This weaker version of the WC without Russia and much worse Canadian and Swedish teams than in the past should be winnable without Josi too. And if Fischer finally gets canned after another quarters exist it would be a win in my book too. Sure it would suck for now but at least the team would have an actual future then. Particularly in regard to the WC on home ice and the next olympic games...

You know that a quarter-exit wouldn't change Fischer's contract situation. They just extended his contract no matter what.

Wans't there talk in February about a buyout clause that could kick in if certain undisclosed goals are not met at the WC?

I think you are right, it was something like getting through the quarter, but he could stay if we are eliminated by a "very good team"... I don't really know what it means honestly, they are all good team at this stage...

Looks like it's happening. Genoni, Geisser and Senteler added, Simion and Herzog to be added next week. No news regarding the Fribourg players yet.

Charlin the only player cut.

Maybe, but even than, you know how it works. The only really chance to get rid of Fischer is to miss the Quarters. And I'm too much Swiss to want to see that.
