Mitch Marner, Yet Again

What does this have to do with you complaining about Marner having his stick up ready for a one timer?
Again… what does that have to do with you bitching about him having his stick up waiting for a one timer, as a criticism of the goal?

That’s what I thought, nothing. So you deflect the convo to something complete irrelevant.

And that’s not something I’ve ever said, so I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Glad to go into more detail on this goal. I've said the same thing over and over...Marner does not do ANY dirty work. He very very rarely goes into corners with the intention of battling. Last game, while the rest of the Leafs went into corners with hesitation and with speed... Marner would be hesitant and slow and if he got to the corner, he would very quickly lose the battle. Because he doesn't even try. Which is what Biz and Hrudey highlighted in the playoff intermission showing clips of Marner while saying "hasn't won a battle all night" and he's "just not been very good".

Here is another angle of the goal with "Marners stick in the air". Matthews takes the puck to the net and Knies crashes...Which causes three Florida Panthers to collapse on them. both go to battle for the loose puck and win it. Meanwhile Marner.....just cruising in open areas lol. This goal would not happen without Knies and Matthews crashing the net.

Marner never does the same for them. He doesn't take pucks to net, and he certainly never crashes the net and HE MOST certainly doesn't battle for loose pucks behind the net. He's never around the net. The best he does is a fly by.

This play does not happen if it's Marner who gets the puck on the boards and not Matthews. No chance in hell. There are about 3 plays that Matthews make that Marner won't. Again Matthews the playdriver and Marner riding coat-tails.

They really do complement each other. Anyone of them could have made that play.

No chance we can sign them all, we also have to sign Knies. He probably gets 6.5-7

Also don't see Bennett leaving Florida. Back to back finals and won a cup there and he's a huge part of their core + tax free state, just don't see him leaving.

Also he's a piece of shit and likely gets suspended for the entire playoffs if pulls the shit he does in Florida, here.

Rumors abound that Knies is going to be offer sheeted... if people dont like Mitch at 12 mil, just wait till Knies and his agent use half a dozen other teams and the potential for them to offer sheet Knies as leverage, we know Chicago likes him, they already tried to trade for him a few years ago. A young 30-ish goal power fwd, 1st liner, he gets $9 mil easy on the open market. There has to be at least one crazy GM that is willing to offer a 10 mil offer sheet, Leafs might have to go to $10 mil per to just to keep him. There is the potential/possibility we lose Knies, Marner and Tavares this summer. Knies contract will dictate if we keep Tavares. If we are forced into a bidding war on Knies, the bitching about getting Mitch on a team friendly contract, in order to sign other players, is a bit of a moot point.

No one is offering Knies 10m.

... and you point is what? Vaselevsky does not go into corners but he is still effective, Marner is still all day a 100 point pace player, he is still effective. He goes into the corners frequently and strips pucks frequently. The fact he is not a banger and crasher is irrelevant... 100 point pace player all day, every day.....

Again you make statements but dont connect the dots to reality... he is a fhreaking 100 point pace player...

Tell me your honest opinion on this guy, he never went into the corners to bang and crash....

I don’t give a shit if Marner is riding coat tails or Matthews is honestly. Who the f*** cares honest to God. As long as they find a way to score I could care less how it’s done. That line showed up. Point blank period, I know I’m gonna come across as a dick here, but have you played sports before in your life or do you just run numbers all day?

In those moments on the ice or on the field, analytics is an afterthought. You make good points at times about the dirty areas thing. But who cares, if when it comes down to crunch time in an important game he finds a way to score? That’s the whole point of why people think your posts are honestly a joke. We don’t need you to stats us to death why you think the goal (based on whatever criteria you think is important) isn’t significant. It comes across as a big gulp of hater-ade truthfully and it’s nitpicking something that’s irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Ultimately, no one cares about any stats you post as long as these get it done at the end of the day. I think I speak for many fans here, we don’t NEED you to come in here and suck the air out of the place after a win or after a big moment by the top line. We simply don’t give af. It feels very trolley.

To actually post this and think that Marner is somehow "bad" is very disturbing.
All I can say is that it's very difficult to not break the site rules and I truly feel sorry for you.

Would it even make sense for 3 players to surround the puck?

I feel like Marner did what he was supposed to there. If you’re not gonna be in a puck battle you better be in an open spot and ready to shoot the puck. Or am I just missing something here? I honestly don’t understand Antro’s analysis of this goal.

He got into a position for a shot. He did the correct thing and scored a goal.

He doesn't dig out pucks from dirty areas very often.

He does strip pucks and intercept passes well.

I don't know how to understand the analysis other than he is saying what they do, Marner does not.

Ah I see! Yeah Marner isn’t going to be one who goes in the corner and digs out pucks. That isn’t his game, and honestly I’m okay with that as long as he’s in positions like the other night to shoot and not at the blue line.

I do think Marner is good at intercepting and stripping pucks and deflecting pucks off sticks. Nylander and Matthews are better at it but I think that’s one of the things the three amigos are good at. They aren’t heavy hitters but they make great defensive plays with their sticks all the time.

Agree there is more than one way to be effective, if banging and crashing, going into the corners was the only important thing in hockey, every player would be Tom Wilson, it takes a mosaic of players. With different attributes to make a championship team. There is no perfect player.

I’d rather lose Mitch at his new salary than Knies at whatever he gets.

Fans would love Marner if he took $12m. Not so much love if he drags it out and gets $13-$14m.

Knies would be buying his ticket out of town if he gets an OS for $9+m.

That seems to be the rumor 9 mil, Biz Nasty on Amazons coast to coast show was saying he is hearing ( and I heard other talking heads say similar things) that there are multiple GM's that want to offer sheet Knies and with the cap goign up more teams are goign to use the offer sheet as a way to build their rosters... 9 mil was thrown around by other people... I'm not one to typically believe hockey insiders, Biz is a straight shooter and if he says he's heard something, I believe him..,

Marner above 13 mil is stupid bad cap management. As much as he is an elite player, you sign him at 14 , that almost means you are making the decision that you are walking away from Matthews when he is up in a couple of years. Stolarz, Woll, Cowan, Knies will be looking for or are signed to big contracts in the next 3 to 5 years. Even with the cap going up to 115 mil, there is only so much to go around.

Haha as a player and a coach.

This is a player who wouldn't be on my tteam.its not a hard decision either. And for 13% of the cap, this player will single handedly put you out of the playoffs.

Until proven otherwise but let’s hope this years different my friend for our sake

Again, I don’t care if he wouldn’t be on your team. It isn’t reality.

The reality is Marner IS on our team. And I want this team to have success this year. So I’m gonna support him and every other player and hope they figure it out so we can watch and cheer them on.

You’re free to disagree and hope otherwise that’s the purpose of the forum.

That would cost them, two 1sts + 2nd + 3rd + 10M in cap space

Absolutely no chance rebuilding teams like Chicago offer him that, it's a potential Mckenna pick. I don't think he's getting offer sheeted. He's a great player but rebuilding teams would be paying a hefty price, likely two top 15 picks in back to back years.

Good/contending teams likely don't have the draft picks necessary to even offer sheet him.

I think he re-signs for like 7.5M

dude who would even be on your team.
Every single post of yours is just about Marner. Talk about obsession .
😂
Being careful with my words here. I used to think that @Antropovsky was just naive about statistics so I'd point out things he did wrong. Then, more recently after some very strange posts about Domi being equal / better than Marner / Nylander I thought that he was just trolling. I'm starting to think that there is something troubling going on here and will change my posting practices to reflect that.

I have a theory it's just an alt account from a past poster who shall not be named 😂 this is me being careful too.
