There are teams in this tournament that would have trouble against a top club team from the OHL, WHL, QMJHL or the USHL, much less an all-star team....Tournament officials should take note.....The Swiss coach is basically 'telling like it is". 'There something rotten in the State of Denmark' with this tournament, and it's isn't just their junior team.
The comparative level of those bottom teams will rise and fall but that's the nature of this tournament. Due to the age restrictions, it's always going to be a challenge for smaller nations to keep coming up with top level prospects on an annual basis. However, there is really no point in lamenting how bad the poor teams are when we have already seen Slovakia take ou USA. If I'm the Swiss coach, I'm not telling the players they have no shot. I'm running a looped video of the Slovakia/USA game for my guys 24 hours a day!

At least this. Maybe even 1/80.
Just because the US managed to lose in hilarious fashion to a massive underdog doesn’t mean true hockey superpowers are also liable to being f***ing trash lol.

Not trying to get a rise out of anybody, just testing out whether or not jinxes are real in as obtuse a fashion as I can think of. ;)

I believe he said this because it is sometimes better for players to feel like an underdog, they know they can only surprise, are not under such pressure knowing that. Plus, you tell the opponent "OK, you must, we can" with this. I am pretty sure the Swiss will do their best in that game and will try hard.

Canada almost lost a game to Latvia in the Olympics with a full complement of NHL players, any team can beat any team. Kind of stupid of the coach to have said that.

They have also lost to the Swiss at the Olympics, during their ill-fated Turin 2006 tourney that saw them finish out of the medals. But that was some time ago. ;)

It was a strange interview because I thought that to a degree he was using the media and his comments as motivation to prove "everyone" wrong as Ottawa Senators did last season.

But after the game, it seems he was just being honest which makes it more confusing since he's the head coach of Suisse annually....so he gets a lot of say for the club I believe and Suisse was the youngest team of the WJC main group. Why bring such a young team when you know that you're likely to get destroyed in a tournament like this and still make the interview?

A coach is supposed to motivate their team and not tell them they have no chance and that it is a guaranteed loss.

A coach is suppose to develop a plan and try to execute it. I’ve never looked 5o my coach to motivate me, but rather put me in a position to be successful.

The Swiss coach was honest, he didn’t have a plan that would allow for his team to have success. As you saw less than a minute into the game.

This isn’t Timbits hockey.

Ray Ferraro was irate at this during the game yesterday, basically the coach throwing in the towel before the game happens.

Coach Bombay would never do this
