Zero chance? No team in a competition like this has zero chance. It might be near zero but upsets still happen occasionally. 2006 Olympics?

That swiss team was a lot closer to Canada than this u20 team is to Canada u20 this year.

He said nothing that his players didn't know already. If I was a player and I heard a coach give the "we will battle hard" interview it would sound almost patronizing, if I didn't know that it would be a complete BS PR answer. I prefer it when the interviewees don't sound like politicians.

You can't say this stuff if you're the coach of a team though. It's not fair to your players, even if everyone knows what he says is likely true.

I dont think he is playing mind games. He seems like honest person and he simply said the truth.
No, it wouldn't match the upset of Kazakhstan beating us 6-3 in '98.

Hmm...IIRC that was "just" a placement game, while this is quarterfinals. Just because of importance of this game I would call eventual Swiss victory as bigger suprise.

you could call it that, I, however, would not.

regardless of the game, what was on the line, or what kind of tournament they were having prior to the game with Kazakhstan, losing to them would still rank as THE bigger upset than losing to the Swiss in a 1/4 game 2018.

We didn't have much of a bigger chance against USA than Switzerland has against Canada. I mean, he is pretty much telling the truth but I don't think a coach should send this kind of a message to his players.
EDIT: After watching the interview, I don't think he said anything wrong, maybe I missed it but I don't think he ever said they have zero chance, as the OP suggests...

I'd say he is playing mind games as well. He sure as hell knows their only shot at winning this is through a major upset. He wants Team Canada to underestimate them and play at 50%, that's their one and only chance.

I believe the Canadians are too professional (even at this age) to go in at 50%. Canada wins by 6-1.

Zero chance means absolutely no chance, 0%. There is always a chance even if a minuscule one. Stranger things have happened.

I'd rather have my coach tell me what's what and not try to fluff it. His job isn't to be the cheerleader. They are big boys, they know what they are up against.

That was one of the most entertaining hockey interviews I have seen. Good for him for some brutal honesty!

This guy is realistic. Awesome.
There are teams in this tournament that would have trouble against a top club team from the OHL, WHL, QMJHL or the USHL, much less an all-star team....Tournament officials should take note.....The Swiss coach is basically 'telling like it is". 'There something rotten in the State of Denmark' with this tournament, and it's isn't just their junior team.
