TSN: Sweeney praised by other GMs for work on TDL day

It's almost like some here wished Sweeney had kept Marchand, Coyle, Frederic and Carlo.... likely just finishing in/out of a wildcard spot. Receiving no prospects or picks and watching some guys walk for free this summer.
Oh boy, that Sweeney is a sure dumb-dumb.
You can be happy the sold at the deadline but still not think the guy who got this roster to the place it is, devoid of talent and a glut of bottom 6 guys, is the right choice to utilize those picks.

lol the FA stork dropped off Geekie & Ullmark just to name two

There is a reason why National podcasts, publications, and NHL Network hosts openly mock and laugh at Bruins fans as entitled and delusional

Obviously not all but it’s pretty accurate if they do off those Athletic polls
Now do the bad ones? They are awful

You don't think the timing of this thread is dubious at best? Team gets eliminated from playoffs and we got folks here praising this clown? Very much agenda driven, imo
Sweeney handling of the trade deadline and the 30 Day retool/rebuild would make General George Patton proud.

His WW II tank sits at Patton Park in Hamilton ~ been on it many times as a kid played a lot of baseball over there ~ Donny should pose for a picture after his near masterful recovery of a season and future hemorrhaging

Thank you Donny

Seriously. Everyone else spends 24/7 365 pointing it out

Besides I’m watching the Masters

It's amazing. Can't be both here has to be black or white. I get why people would want to can him, and no issue with people who want to keep him. all he could hang his hat on lately was regular season success and now and doesn't even have that, but it's sacrilege to want him gone. Makes zero sense. Personally no matter who the guy is, the team is years away from being a legit Cup contender again IMO

I'd like to hear your thoughts on dealing Ullmark the great signing which i agree with to a division rival and having one of the main pieces coming back be an anchor contract with term to play as the back up poorly for three more years. IMO the good of having signed him was undone by trading him. We'd have been better suited letting him walk for nothing

Lou I think I’m the only one defending Sweeney - I couldn’t name one other person (does Don Godfather even count)

I’m also the only one saying they will be good next season

I’m going to look brilliant!!!!

I’ve got probably 100 posts on it

Right now I’m worried more about Rory not blowing this lol

Sweeney hasn’t figured it out in ten years on the job, I highly doubt he figures it out in year 11.

We all win then. Hoping for the best. Excited for the draft, for sure.

You can also be happy he sold at the deadline and not muck up the thread about it with old axe grinding. But here we are.

If I were GM I wouldn't have moved Marchand at the deadline, thought he earned the right to call his shot. Letting him pick East coast vs west I think was a bit of a concession. Anyone think they should have shipped him west for conceivably a better return?

You are not the only one who defends Sweeney. He is not perfect, but he's easily a top 10 GM. This year was a disaster. I certainly wouldn't fire someone with Sweeney's record because of one awful season

Hall got traded for a 2nd in the 2021 draft.
Time length of extracting value was 4 months.

Marchand got traded for a 2nd in the 2027 (conditional 1st in the 2028 draft).
Time length of extracting value is at least 2 years and 4 months.

Panthers still own their 2nd pick in 2026.
I guess Kevyn Adams is a top 10 GM then.

Do I care much if the 2nd round pick is 26 instead of 27? I am hoping for the first in 28 personally

If it wasn't obvious from my post I also defend Sweeney

I think Sweeney is a good GM and the Bruins will be very good next season.

Additionally his pleasure in leaving Krejci and Debrusk with garbage for years as the second line. Costing a Cup in 2019 for example. He always seemed to do "enough" while relying on the players he inherited to drive the success.

Ironically then has the team on a historic run and perhaps does TOO much in adding Bertuzzi (who hurt as much as helped) for a 1st round pick, Hathaway and Orlov who were largely absent rather than the simpler in style Columbus defenseman... plenty to question year after year with Sweeney. More than his successes I maintain.

You gotta give him credit for the Orlov signing. Bertuzzi wasn't as good but still not a disaster. Things just didn't workout for the team that year. Florida was a tough draw, one of the best 8th seeds in recent memory.

Signing Geekie for 2 years $4M was a good move. He drafted McAvoy at least. But he flubbed the 2015 draft SO badly, all-in-all has been bad at drafting. It's a mixed bag.
