How will Sweden be tired? They are a bunch of 19 yo's who didn't travel anywhere, and have been sitting around in their hotel rooms, sleeping and being served food. Yeesh!

I think Sweden will come out on fire, and it will be the USA who will be struggling to match their intensity. The ace in the hole for the USA will be their PP, the weakness for Sweden their PK, unless they get it fixed, and fast.

...the body needs 48 hours of rest to fully recover after a intense workout, so of course they will feel it. It is a factor, no matter how you look at it.

On the other hand, the Russians played Austria the day before, which was a perfect warm-up for the Sweden game. And it showed in the first period...

Sweden will punish USA with 5-1. Swedens PP is even better than the US. Raymond, Holtz, Elmer Söderblom, Gunler, Björnfot, Broberg and Söderström feel a bit hotter than USA with Zegras and Caulfield.

I take it you have never played competitive sports? They may feel fine, but the actual output on the 2nd night of a back to back will be less than a rested team. And if you choose not to believe that, there is a 15% drop in poibts earned at an NHL level on the 2nd night of a B2B.

I've got a feeling that Sweden either collapses from their loss last night, gets comfortably beaten today and then eliminated by Finland/Canada in the quarters.....or they rebound and use this game as a springboard for a deep medal run. I'm kind of leaning towards the former...but as always this tournament is unpredictable.

This will be a tough game for both teams. But I think USA has the better team overall. Better depth at D (even though it’s close) and I like the US’ centers over Sweden’s. It’s going to be a close game.

@Tavares the Noble ...ahh, breaking out the "never played competitive sports" card. A sign of someone who has a weak argument.

Your info on B to B's ignores the fact that these guys aren't traveling. They aren't leaving a dressing room at around 11:30 pm, taking a bus to an airport, going through customs/check in lines, flying, possibly having to deal with delays, waiting for a bus at the other end, then checking into a new hotel at 3-4am, possibly adjusting to a new time zone, then trying to get to sleep, only to be wakened for a morning skate. The WJC kids are also not in the midst of a long season, but a short tournament with nothing to do but play hockey.

You are comparing apples to oranges.

Broberg is playing hurt and looked like a pylon. he doesn't belong in that list

It was a question because any competitive athlete knows the implications of back to back games.

If you don't understand that a person would be slightly more tired the day after a competitive game, that's your issue. You can ignore evidence and biology all you want.

Think it's the right move for Knight be back in net. He's the better goalie and gives them the best chance to win when he's at his best

Sitting your best goalie could cost them. Mind you, that’s a moot point if the Swedish D don’t defend a lot better than they did last night.

But will you at least acknowledge that it is logical that the impact of back-to-back at the WJC, where the players are far younger than NHLers, where there is no travel, and where they are not in the middle of a long grinding season, is significant lessened?

Of course it would be less. Just like it's less if a team has a back to back at home or they win an easy one in the 1st game an rest their players in the 3rd. The players also aren't far younger than NHLers, since some players in the tournament are currently NHLers, but yes a 17 year old would recover faster than a 35 year old, but still not fast enough to negate the back to back. Things aren't black and white and didn't imply otherwise.

But to pretend there is no impact is dishonest. Add in the game went to OT and was a very emotional loss, it gets that much worse. They are also playing a well rested team.

I’m very excited to see how the US skaters respond to their biggest test. Zegras, Caufield, Turcotte, Boldy, York & Knight among others were part of a legendary USNDP group and a run at their final WJC would cement their legacy. That run has to start tonight with 60 minutes of focused yet frenzied play. Sweden is too skilled and too disciplined for anything less than a demonic effort.

Podkolzin’s line provides a good blueprint - drive the puck to the net and crash the net. US needs Boldy, Kaliyev, Turcotte and others to be aggressive and open up space for Zegras & Caufield.

4-2 US in a game that is less close than the score shows.
