I dunno. Mack was driving to the net hard and with speed. If one of those shots had gone in we wouldnt be complaining about Mack being selfish and would still be calling whatshisname a useless toronto scrub on the team roster. :sarcasm:
He’s got a great shot and I love how he goes right after it. But some of those plays were low percentage.

So while I agree with you that I love the aggressiveness, there are times wheee you should think about passing off, especially with players that good on the ice with you.

He had no angle on those shots, no way to cut across the net and no traffic. Any NHL goalie (and especially beer leaguers who have slow hands) would just get out, get big and let the puck hit them…. And that’s what happened.

Marner made a perfect shot on a moving goalie…. Very very different.

I think it might come to that. Still another 3 games to go if you include the final. And d men are susceptible to injury so it’s a real possability
There are rules in place for substitutions, but I'm not sure how many bodies need to drop for that to happen.

MacGinnon has such poor game awareness and hockey sense. But he's such a beast that going 1 on 3 he got off a few good shots that the goalie had to make good saves.

It also works because it defies all logic to try to deke through 3 defenders so it catches people off guard. After he tries it the second third and fourth time Sweden caught on and made him turn the puck over in embarassing fashion.

And Bennington had to be sharp to keep Canada alive.
I get what you are saying, but at the same time he was able to get multiple dangerous shots off in the slot. Its nice to have an option of a guy who will take it directly to the danger areas.

I know there's good reasons that Russian are banned and I don't want to start that debate but I will say it's a damned shame we're not getting to see Malkin and Ovechkin and Kucherov and all the Russian greats play in this tournament.

Ovie still has a good hockey left to give. He would have been fired up to play in this and the fans would have loved it.
Don't worry. Jon Cooper just found a brand new "Canadian" goaltender named Andrew Vasely and a right winger named Nicholas McKutcheon at an open skate.

McDavid wasnt willing to shoot the puck tonight. You can complain all you want about Mack shooting non stop, but someone has to take the bull by the horns and shoot. You aint passing it into the net.
It’s 3 on 3 though. Give it to McDavid you’ll get it back in a prime spot. Nate almost scored on their other shift that way.

I'm surprised Cooper had Point on the 3rd line all game. He knows Point better than anyone else and Point is an absolute beast in big games. I think he does move him up for the next game.
Honestly IDK, I think that Jarvis-Point-Marchand group was probably the most cohesive line Canada had tonight, the rest of it kind of just looked like really skilled guys doing their own thing.

What I noticed is that Canada was catching Sweden with the stretch pass in the 1st but the Swedes caught on and started intercepting them in the 2nd.

All credit to Marner. But if Bennington gives up that goal he’s crucified by Canada.

As for MacKinnon, I agree with the masses that he was overly selfish. I guess if there’s one thing to say on it is that id rather too selfish than too passive. By all means go to the net but use your teammates more.

I imagine Mack is more patient than that normally and was maybe just fired up with nerves given it was a big game but idk. Maybe Avs fans can weigh in on that. I catch some of their games but don't watch a ton of Mack.
This is exactly it. If anything, Mack needs to be shooting more in Colorado as he has been passing way too frequently. He was amped up for this game and that’s why he was playing how he did in ot. Would I have liked for him to pass to Mcdavid on the 2-1, absolutely, but I’m not gonna begrudge a guy for taking a shot in this situation, ever.

The game was a big thing for him and they talked in practice about needing to ensure they don’t get too cute.

Neither player had a great game but they both played hard and you can tell this means a lot to them.

Overall I’d say it was a great hockey game and too bad for those who want to see it fail.

Wow he was driving to the net and shooting? How surprising. It’s what he does every season. The dude has 21 goals on 9.8% shooting this year. That is his style of play, and it definitely isn’t a winning formula when you are playing with superstars around you.

Agreed. That line was by far the best at reading plays. The Crosby line had its moments too, but I really think the 3rd line jived together really nice.

Not a lot of talk about the 4th line. IMO, they were “meh”. Cirelli and Hagel were great on the PK. I still think Marner should be the 4th line RW and they should move Konecny up with McDavid. Allows McDavid to have the puck more and Konency is a great finisher
