Why do people care about this random goalie again? Hyped goalies come and go like the cycle of the moon and sun. Boston should consider themselves lucky if they lose him. No goalie is worth that kind of money. The elite guard of goalies are gone. You just need some decent goalie to win. Nothing else.

Better bring that old man outside and put him down. Yuck
Craig Robinson as the Bouncer in Knocked Up: I can't let you in cause you're old as f***. For this club, you know, not for the earth.

Their window is right now, not years from now when Ullmark is retired, Swayman is maybe playing somewhere and Boston is two GMs removed from this mess.

Everything before the Bruins came out and said something that was in the media made Boston look cheap and bad. None of those rumors were obviously coming from Boston's side. Gross was trying to build up pressure on Boston through the Chiclets guys. Cool, well played.

Heading into a potential no contract on the first day of the season... you don't want to be the side with the fans against you.

So Boston let out their extremely extremely reasonable offer to shift the narrative. Of course them rounding up to 64m instead of down to 63m left Gross with a chance to call them all liars. That was a mistake. But them going to the media after Gross had been sneaky leaking to the media to drive the narrative is totally reasonable.

The Bruins aren't the Harry Sinden Bruins. Pasta, McAvoy, all the guys are fairly paid. 8x8 is fair for Swayman.

It's Swayman's camp wanting to stick to 8 years that is the problem here, really. It would be so much easier to agree on a 4x7 deal and let Swayman cash in again before he is 30 just like Helly and Saros did.

Interestingly is that Gross kept incredibly tight lipped during the Nylander negotiations. There were almost no major rumors leaked prior to the signing, and certainly nothing contentious and antagonistic.

Which would suggest that either 1) Gross isnt using the media as he doesn't have much of a history of doing some OR 2) relations between team and player are about as toxic as they can get at this point

He is 100% correct. I'll never begrudge someone trying to get the most money they can for a job.

However, it kinda ignores the bombshell dropped about him writing down the negatives that were used against him in arbitration and him being pety towards the team. That is killing Swayman in the court of public opinion now because to some it comes across that he is acting like a woman airing dirty laundry for a Netflix show. If he writes that down for personal motivation and nobody knows? No problem with that. However, he did not do that. He did nothing but damage his rep by making that info public and is now further creating a circus around the team.

Contract holdouts happen all the time across sports and that is a routine circus. It gets worked out. Leaking arbitration pettiness against an organization does not happen all the time, and now that has throw a big thing of fuel on the fire and made this a bigger deal than it should be.

Maybe Neely wasn't lying. Maybe he didn't offer 64 million but he sat down one night and decided to make a list of all the reasons he would be playing and he was able to think of 64 million reasons not related to money.

Reason number 1, I like the yellow on the jerseys, reason number 2.....
Reason number 3 if they agree on 64 I’ll say yes.
