Probably at the practice facility. Then, he is working out. Followed by a meal with the family.Where are you?
I would assume that he's somewhere in the Raleigh area or nearby, considering that's where game 2 will be played tomorrow night.
Pretty sure everyone has always agreed with thisAt what point do we all agree that Aho is not a high-end 1C?
I don't think anyone (that knows hockey) has ever thought that in Raleigh. I'm wondering if he's even a 2C on a contending team this year. Staal has outplayed him offensively this year while getting much more challenging shifts. At what point do we all agree that Aho is not a high-end 1C?
he's very obviously a 2C on any team, and a 1C on several. What is this crazy talkI don't think anyone (that knows hockey) has ever thought that in Raleigh. I've definitely been argued on this topic here.Pretty sure everyone has always agreed with this
Miller and Walker have been the first pair most of the season, not sure what you think the first pair is. Slavin missed most of the season and has been playing hurt the whole time. They’ve been leaning on Miller all season.Tons of comparables, but none really for a team that has been successful despite a horrible L1 performance. Most comparables are from teams that get swept.
Crosby in 2018-2019 (1pt, -4, in 4 GP) for example.
IMO, Svech has been the worst of the 3 and should be moved off that line as an experiment. Aho, Jarvis, and CAR's first D pairing (Slavin and Chatfield) need to shoulder some of the blame too. It just seems that there is a suck potato that is tossed before every game and someone out of that 5 always catches it, sinking the entire group. Svech can't seem to hit the net with shots and Jarvis/Aho refuse to shoot or go to the net.
CAR's L1 and 1D pairing have been their worst line and yet are still playing due to the outstanding results from Stank's line and Miller's insane performances. K'andre should be CAR's Smythe candidate (should they somehow pull through) and it's not close. He has a 81% GF% at 5v5 through the playoffs. It is beyond insane.
I think CAR's Stanley cup hinges on their L1's performance, but I don't see Aho and Co outpacing Eichel's line unless something changes.
And we quickly wandered into hyperbole.I don't think anyone (that knows hockey) has ever thought that in Raleigh. I'm wondering if he's even a 2C on a contending team this year. Staal has outplayed him offensively this year while getting much more challenging shifts.
Good insight, thanks. I noticed when i've seen the Canes this year that Aho seemed less effective and noticable as well. And then in the playoffs the whole line was very ordinary. Odd when all 3 players are either in the middle of their prime or just entering it.Miller and Walker have been the first pair most of the season, not sure what you think the first pair is. It’s understandable why they would be slow to change the lines. The second and third lines are why they have depth, and both lines have great chemistry so you wouldn’t mess them up just to get the top line going. They scored four goals last night, they’re not short on offense.
Svech is a monster when he’s playing physical. Jarvis losing his touch has been an issue, he played hurt to get into the Olympics and was clearly banged up at times during the lead up to the playoffs. He’s hurt now I think. Aho is the story. This isn’t a playoffs thing, this is the least impressive season I’ve seen him play I think. He always finds his points as he’s an opportunistic player but he wasn’t himself all year. This is just a continuation imo. I’ve also never found him to be th strongest playoff guy either, though again he usually finds his points. He consistent two ways and he’s a much better shooter than when he was young but he’s never been a big one on one threat. He feeds off of mistakes and the space you leave him, he doesn’t get that much of either in the playoffs.
The power play has been very meh, to me that might be part of the numbers being off.
The Canes have never been a one line team, so this isn’t the biggest issue as long as they aren’t bad defensively.
Aho came into the playoffs with 85 points in 89 career playoff games, including an impressive 60 EVPs. For the beating up on weak competition point, he put up 33 in 36 in series losses.
In a league in which a drop off is expected regular season to playoffs for most (see superstars like Pastrnak, Matthews and Panarin in the same sample), Aho was steady over a large sample size.
It’s just collapsed in 2026 for whatever reason.
None of them are driving the zone very well. Svech builds speed but doesn’t have the greatest first couple of steps so he isn’t the biggest entry threat when it’s contested like it is now, Jarvis like I said I think is hurt so he isn’t carrying into the zone very often either - at least not that effectively. Aho should be stepping up there and he’s doing his best, but like we’re saying he hasn’t really been at his best this year.Good insight, thanks.
