Confirmed with Link: Svech and ZLH to Avs for Drury+

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I’m honestly starting to believe that people are highly over valuing the prospects and young players in this organization. It doesn’t matter if they were drafted in the first round, they’re really just not that great.
Yeah we can argue about what led to this point but the reality is Svechkov and L’Hereux are a step above waiver fodder at this point. That’s not CMac’a fault.

No probably not, but some of us are just tired of new GM's coming in and kicking young guys to the curb while bringing in older players. Even some of us that are patient can only eat the same shit sandwich so many times before you get tired of it being served.
The young guys that are getting kicked to the curb are not very good. Why does getting rid of not very good players like Tomasino, Parsinnen and now Svech and L’Hueruex bother you?

Instead of being mad at the new GM, maybe be mad at the old GM and scouting department that picked the players that ended up being not very good.

I'm mad at them too. We haven't had decent drafting in almost a decade.

My question is this he is an RFA if some team was stupid enough to offer him $4.8 million a year that’s a first and a third if he gets the 3.5 which people expect that’s a second rounder I don’t expect that, but if somebody is stupid enough to make an offer for him holy shit

I absolutely would love it if somebody offersheeted him at 1st level. But look, he jumped massively to 10 goals last season after 8 the previous two? So this is like Cole Smith level production. Nobody is offering that kind of money for what Drury does.

I'm expecting it will be "dark humor" hilarious when the Preds sign this guy. He'll get $3M+ or whatever with dumb term. Yay. :help:

I guess I don’t understand why it matters if the new GM gets rid of them then.
Cause the start of the new GM's tenure looks just like the other GM's tenures. In the end it probably doesn't matter, but it looks just exactly like the kind of moves we have made for most of this organizations existence.

It also looks like he is setting things up to make a push rather than reload which is just a waste of time and means we get to watch more mediocre hockey for the next several years.

I’m sorry but it hasn’t even been a month yet. Maybe hold off on the freak out? We have no idea what the plan is. I’m sure a lot more is coming and a lot of it will seem odd. Hopefully he sticks the landing sooner (a year or two) than later (five years).

What I get from that is we haven't drafted anyone good in the first round since 2014. It ain't hard to see why we stink, Also points alot to what I have been saying. It doesn't matter how good your development is if they guys you are drafting aren't that great to start with.
I disagree I think most if not all of those guys were rated highly and the fact we don't have anything to show for it is 100% on our development.

None of those players have done anything of note outside of Fiala and Jones, which we knew they would when those deals were made ( was a different era of this franchise ). Gotta have something to develop first before development even matters.

Preds were drafting guys with high floors and low ceilings. They basically all did what they were projected to do.

I feel like on any other team there would be at least one player exceeding expectations, these weren't reaches.

I see it as concentrating 2 unknowns into an established bottom 6 guy. You can say whatever you want about their upside or development to this point, but the reality is however we got here neither guy was anything more than a below average replacement level player. I was not a ZLH fan, and thought he was over hyped for his potential. Opinions were bouyed because he played hard (borderline reckless), but I never saw that translate to much. If Drury ends up being our 3c, PKer, defensive specialist it's quite valuable. It's possible ZLH goes to COL and lights it up, but I think he's probably a poor man's William Carrier IF he even sticks. The other thing to consider, there are guys behind him that are getting close to needing their shot. I get it, some don't think either kid got a fair shake, but the assembly line doesn't stop because you fumbled development 2 years ago. I don't think either guy was a guarantee for the opening night roster, and this is a better option than trying to waive them.

In the end I suspect we come away with a cheap bottom 6 center without giving much up. If ZLH or Svech were held in higher regard I think we would have received additional offers. I didn't mention Svech much, because to me, I think he's a tweener and ends up in Russia.

Now since its been a minute. I was advocating to consolidate some of our prospects into either a younger player or picks. We turned two prospects that struggled to stay at the nhl level for one reason or another and were going to have to be exposed to waivers into a youngish NHL player. Not exactly as much value as I was hoping but im filled with Homer juice and value my trade assets highly.

So

Forsberg ror Evangelista
Stamkos wood fink/o'hara/kemell
Ross pinchuk march
Schaefer drury ozzy

Svechkov and L'Hereux both needed to clear waivers starting this year so my guess is CMac didn't see them as worth gifting roster spots to and took what he could get. I'm going to go ahead and say that in three years time we'll look at this and see it as no real loss.
This seems like a spin. Whatever it is or turns out to be, it's yet 2 more 1st round picks that were mismanaged by this organization. The same pattern continues... wash rinse repeat. From Fabbro to Tolvanen to Tomasino to Parsinnen to Afanasyev
Yeah, it really burned them in a huge way with Tomasino and Parsinnen. Those guys are lighting up the league, Poile was great at drafting forwards.
Where did Poile go off the board during the draft??? This is and has always been a player development issue.

Yeah an alternative way to view this is that CMac likes some of our other young players better and just opened up one more roster spot for someone else rather than trying to turn guys into something they’re not.

Sure but us bungling things in the past doesn’t mean this wasn’t the right move to do today.
