TV: Survivor 48

Yep same here. The amount of screen time she's getting and her edit leads me to believe the same. So far she seems like a bit of a bulldozer where despite her madness she seems to just be able to roll over people and get them to do what she wants. Frustrating to watch, but if she makes it that far I wonder what her jury management would look like.
It is no mystery as to why.

For all of you hating on S48 here, go watch Australian Brains vs Brawn II. It's on YouTube now.
47 days
2 tribes
24 players
Actual interesting challenges
Lots of twists
Great gameplay
Some actual villainous moves

Or maybe don't. It will make you hate the "New Era" even more.
I am holding out faint hope that season 50 is going to bring a much needed paradigm shift.

Imagine making Boston Rob take a journey on a f***ing dice game and not only losing his vote, but someone else decides "Oh cool. Here's my chance to take him out. Nevermind some other person!" All because the intended target successfully played a SITD. They would literally never ***EVVVVAAAARRRRRR*** put him in that position. Journeys and SITD wouldn't even f***ing exist because it would pose too much of a danger. He'd lose a challenge, eat rice and Buddy System his way to another day on the island. They literally protected him so much he could be voted off TWICE just to do challenges tailor made for him in season 22.

At this point, every time production has an idea; they need to ask "Would we do this to Rob 15 years ago?" and if the answer is no, it's a bad idea

There are too many trust fund, college kids whose ideas are too great to revert back to the old era.

Also this is the second person who got voted out because they lost their vote with no choice of their own because of a stupid dice game. They had no option to keep their vote and had to just roll the stupid dice and Cedrek voted them both out, one for not telling them about not having a vote and the other for telling them they had it.

So stupid.

Survivor has made me cry a few times. The way Joe comforted Eva was powerful.

I normally hate the sappy stuff because of how much they overdo it but that was just great stuff.

Trying to ignore the fact of Jeff maybe fake crying to make it about himself and his daughters. Just f*** off man and let them have their moment. Didn’t buy that as genuine from him at all.

That was a nice moment for Eva. I know we were all pulling for her. Now she will be voted off. :laugh:

Strategically, Eva revealing she has autism may not have been the smartest move. There's no way that sympathetic of a character is going to make it to the end.

What's with Joe and all the mean-mugging? He doesn't look like he cares for Eva. He looks like he wants to murder her.

Cedrek is one of the most level-head and analytical contestants I've ever seen. It's yet to be determined how good of a player he is though.

But in contrast to Cedrek there's Sai. She's immature below her years. It's been a while since I've disliked anyone as much as I dislike her.

I think there's a hook above each of Shauhin's ears holding his beard up.

Yeah, I think the new era is more cutthroat but I think Joe's only path at this point is people start to revere him like we have seen with JT and Tom Westman. They were the biggest threat for ages and people just loved them so much as people they let them stick around (plus both really comp'd out when needed). I honestly think with his threat level at this point if he manages to make it to the end and win, it will be one of the more impressive games we've ever seen.

As for Eva's reveal, I don't think she really had much of a choice, I'm sure what happened went on longer than shown in the edit, without the reveal their would have been a ton of questions. I was really happy to see Eva and Star start to bond and get along though.

Last scene I can think of this emotional was Jenna's quit in All Stars (and off the top of my head the only other time someone has crossed tribal lines to comfort another player when Amber asks if she can give Jenna a hug) or the Jay/Adam moment on the family visit in Millenials vs Gen X.

For competition reality in general, only other stuff that comes close to those of the top of my head is the stuff related to Diem Brown on The Challenge (such as her iconically taking off her wig to do a daily).

Is it possible this is the worst strategic season ever?

Because it’s off to an awful start. Maybe a few can recover, but there are really only a few who look to be salvageable in the “potential good player” category.

I can’t take anyone from the disaster tribe seriously. Cedrick is bad at the game and very unlikable. Sai is entertainment for how abrasive she is. No social awareness and very unlikable.

Joe and Shauhin are off to a tough start. They kind of got dooped bad on the Thomas vote. Played it naively.

Camilla, Kyle, Mitch, and David look like potential players. Maybe Joe and Shauhin can recover. I don’t think Charity is that bad either, but I don’t know if there’s winner potential there.

Usually there’s at least a few who are really standing out, but it seems like a few of the better players have went out early mostly because they got put in terrible positions.

Incredibly stupid strategists. The more of these 'game bots' they have the more they seem to just have less of a clue how to actually play the game.

Cedrick might be the most annoyingly bad player in recent history. Dude just makes dumb decision after dumb decision. He tried really hard to get Sai out, and then turned on his own partner in front of everyone. Now he thinks the person who he tried to vote out originally is going to work with him long-term? And then sided with her again on another dumb vote. All to keep the most annoying and abrasive person in the game.

These two sentences might be the most non-sensical sentences I've ever read on a Survivor thread here.

I had to re-read it a few times to make sure I was getting the comment about Joe correct.

I loved his looks toward Eva, like he was channeling his entire spirit to help her and just wanted to run over or have her look over and see him urging her on. He looked like he was telepathically trying to get that ball through the maze at one point. The guy clearly has an immense amount of love and respect for her.

that last ep was very poorly edited. The voting didn't make any sense. Why did stutter guy and over the road trucker lady split their votes, one voting for Bianca and the other voting for (I already forgot who). And Cedrick voted fro Bianca. But Sai voted for (I already forgot who). Why weren't they on the same page?

Did I miss something in the lead up cause it seemed to me like all of that came out of left field. Did Cedrik and Over the road trucker lady have a talk? was stutter guy involved? What about Sai?

The edit definitely was trying to hide who was going home.

What I got was basically Bianca told Cedrik about 5 minutes before going to tribal that she didn't have a vote. For some reason that set off Cedrik that she should go home (not the crazy Sai, why he would do that, I have no idea). So Cedrik probably had only minutes to talk to someone and therefore he recruited firefighter lady to join in on a vote against Bianca. Again why she joined that and didn't just stick to Sai knowing itd be 2-1-1 then against Sai, I have no idea. But she likely didn't have time to loop in Mitch.

I get that Bianca was likely a much better player than Sai so more dangerous to keep, plus unlike Sai she had more potential allies going forward after merge but this trend to keep crazy ppl late is proving annoying.

They definitely didn't show us Cedrick and Chrissy having a conversation about voting for Bianca. Well, at the very least it doesn't make much sense for Chrissy to vote for Bianca unless they talked. At one point during the voting montage they showed Cedrick and Chrissy lock eyes and we can see Cedrick shake his head in a "yes" motion. I'd assume that was her making sure Bianca was still the plan.

Cedrick = Bianca
Chrissy = Bianca
Mitch = Sai
Sai = Chrissy
Bianca = No Vote

Mitch definitely didn't seem to know what was up. They made it appear as though Bianca told Cedrick moments before they left for Tribal, so maybe Cedrick could only talk to Chrissy before they got "locked down" on the way to Tribal leaving Mitch in the dark.

Sai was 100% voting Chrissy. Maybe for some reason Chrissy, on her own, thought that Sai may play her shot in the dark and was trying to make sure there would at least be a tie between her and Bianca. If Mitch and Bianca voted for Sai and Cedrick voted for Chrissy with Sai not voting, that would have been a 1-1 revote if Sai was safe, instead of Chrissy just going straight home.

So without Chrissy and Cedrick talking before Tribal, the only other logical explanation would be that Chrissy got scared Sai would use her shot in the dark causing her to go home so she threw a "just in case" vote on Bianca, but accidentally voted Bianca out because Cedrick doesn't like when you lie to him or tell him the truth about not having a vote.

That being said, I don't think getting out Bianca was the wrong move. Chrissy and Cedrick individually had the choice to send home Sai instead, but they both decided to keep her. I think it is because they know Sai is a disaster of a personality that is going to continue to put a target on her own back, which means the target isn't on yours.

I am well aware what Joe was trying to do. Survivor is far too politically correct for it to have been anything else, but Joe's look was intense and not typical of someone who was giving encouragement to someone who was fragile at that moment. If one is smart enough to find it that's in the subtext of what I said. Encouragement in a situation like that typically takes the form of cheering (precisely what the others were doing), jumping, yelling words of encouragement, fist-pumping, et cetera, but not staring down the person you're encouraging like you're a major league pitcher contemplating whether or not he should bean the batter who's making his way to the plate.

Joe's behaviour was atypical. That's all I was saying.

Did it bother me? Not in the least. I've actually always been fascinated by sociology and how it relates to human behaviour. That may be why I've stuck with this show for 25 years. I expressed earlier that Joe is a favourite of mine to win and he still is. Not a small part of that is based on his relationship with Eva. I like the guy and I like Eva. That may not fit the prevailing narrative though because now, a mere light observation of mine that didn't warrant this kind of scrutiny has me designated, and with agreement from others, as a dumb f*** who made HFBoards Survivor history by saying perhaps the stupidest thing ever. There is though, by the way, no hyphen in "nonsensical". Like Rodgerwilco, I too, had to do a reread and confirm that someone was essentially calling me epically dumb and using a misspelled word to do so.

I don't have a godly clue what the issue is with my comment about Cedrek. We've seen some very smart people who couldn't play the game worth a shit.

everything in the first two paragraphs is nonsense. you have no idea what Joe's typical response to that type of stress is. I saw a guy who was intently focused on his friend's challenge attempt to the point where it probably felt to him like he was actually competing alongside her. NO issue whatsoever with his intensity. If this is what you got out of your fascination with sociology then you probably need another 25 years of studying the subject.

3rd paragraph is you pointing out a grammatical error on a message board...yawn.

Eva had also prepped Joe for this, unlike the others. I think during the challenge Joe was just concentrating on her cause he was trying to confirm that this was what she had told him it was. But Eva had told him if this happens what to do. And it wasn't cheering, it wasn't yelling, it wasn't fist pumping. He knew she needed calm, she needed ppl around her to stop doing what they are doing as it was making it worse but Eva was unable to communicate that at that moment.

Imagine being 5 feet away from someone you care about having a breakdown. You know you can help, but are not allowed (they aren't allowed to interact between tribes). And everyone around the person is doing the exact wrong thing, despite their best intentions. I think my expression would be described as mean mugging as well. In my head I'd be "they just know dont know any better", but my heart would saying "but they are f***ing up and making it worse" and thatd be winning out in that moment.

First of all, you're acting like I insulted your best buddy, or that I think Joe's crazy, or even worse, that I think he hates Eva. You'd have to be crazy to believe any of that. I have not said a single derogatory thing about Joe. Like I said, I actually like Joe and if you want to find the post where I said as much, please be my guest. It's on page one.

You can accuse me of being insincere all you want, but if I saw someone looking at me like that in a bar or restaurant I'd be wondering what the f*** their problem is. It was unusual of Joe to act that way when taken in the context of how most people act under similar circumstances. That's my only point and it is a true point. If you cannot agree that was unusual behaviour then we are at an impasse. Do I dislike Joe for doing that? Not even a little. It was fascinating and it revealed the unusual behaviour of a very focused person. Someone here said, maybe it was you, that it looked like he was willing Eva to victory, and I agree. It made for a great moment. We even got to see Probst cry, so now we know he's not an android with a politically correct microchip in his head.

I couldn't resist the grammar thing because it was so rare. We've all seen someone insult another online and make a spelling mistake while doing so. The person is then called a dumbass. But as you implied, that's like picking low-hanging fruit and not something I normally join in on. It's just too easy. But your error is something I don't recall ever seeing before. The actual word that you used to insult me was incorrectly formed. That is rare and that's epic Urban Dictionary shit right there. But do I think you're a dumbass for making that error, no I don't. I make similar errors all the time. I just try not to make them while calling someone stupid, which is a synonym for nonsensical. The moral of the story is, when you insult someone, make sure your grammar and spelling are squared away.

I have no idea why you chose to go negative on me because I don't recall ever having an issue with you, but here we are. I am very much ready to move on though.

My first reaction while watching the episode, to be honest, was very similar to your original comment. When they first cut to Joe I went "what the f*** is he looking at, is he trying to murder someone with a look?". It was only after they cut back to Eva and you could see he was looking at her did I realize oh he's trying to look out for her. And it made more sense. I won't comment on anything else, I wasn't trying to jump on any bandwagon there just trying to give my impression of what I took out of it. Which might be biased cause I read an interview with both Joe and Eva on the weekend after the fact and both kind of gave some more explanation on the moment and what it meant to both of them ('He is my superhero': Eva and Joe go deep in exclusive 'Survivor 48' joint interview)
