At least they are getting into scoring opportunities. I find that as soon as one French player gets in the box, they automatically look to Mbappe. They did the same thing with Ribéry back in the day and it bit them in the butt in those tournaments. Hopefully they start taking their own chances.
France also has no creative midfielders. They are kind of forced to play defensively. They always played like that even when they had amazing teams. They just so happened to have players like Zidane and Pogba that could make that one play.
I agree France's link up play has been good but their last third has been terrible.

They're u23 teams basically. They can have a few extras but most players are already participating in so many tournaments + season. They want some rest before their new season begins (or continue their current one). Olympic Soccer isn't as valuable as a continental cup
