Kounde for sure a starter for Barca. But who will play beside him? Pique is old and tired. Is Christiansen really good enough?

Saw today that Barca have apparently told Frenkie they’re looking for a 35-40% wage reduction. Also saw that they could try and move Ter Stegen if they can’t move Frenkie, but still not sure WTF Pjanic is doing anywhere near the squad much less the club. Not sure if they need to move either as they can still do a licensing and merchandising deal, but we’ll see.

I’ve been thinking about the Frenkie situation. I’m not saying he should be obliged to take a pay cut as I never have. However, I will say that even without the deferred wages he’s owed he’s on significantly higher wages now than Dembele, Lewandowski, Raphinha, Kounde, Pedri, Gavi, Araujo and possible some more. In fact, take Lewandowski off that list and and pick any of the other two and you‘re pretty close to what Frenkie alone makes. That’s not to mention his transfer fee, from years ago, was notably higher than anyone on that list apart from Dembele. So just some additional context, though again that’s not Frenkie’s fault.

50+ 10 cheaper than Martinez too… I can hear Gary crying from here. Love it

Meh, I actually dont’ mind Neville so much. In fact, I don’t think this is all about the Frenkie saga but indeed about the player’s rights. Of course he’s wrong with the lawsuit nonsense, but I don’t think it was all the transfer saga.

I think what’s key here is that the operation is cheaper than what I read Chelsea had agreed with regards to the fee. And I would not that half the variables we’d owe Sevilla are apparently difficult to achieve. On top of that, his wages full into the new wage structure.

What a window Barça has had

Haven’t you read? It’s just a circus laughing stock party of levers that uses Monopoly money. I mean if you actually read this forum you’ll see loads of better plans from supporters of clubs that have no debt, more revenue and better squads.

In all seriousness, the window isn’t over. I will say it looks really good on paper, but we’ll see how it all comes together. That said I’m confident we’ll at least have a better showing in the league this season.

Barca signed 6 players for the cost of one coutinho this window… hope Laporta never leaves. He ain’t perfect but he’s the best man for the job.

People don’t realize the shit show that Laporta and the board inherited. To not only be able to sort out the finances as they have but make the competitive squad they have is pretty incredible. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but that’s subjective.

As for the signings, the real takeaway shouldn’t be the transfer fees, which to your point are generally well done, but rather the wages. The work they’ve done with now having a wage structure again and getting all the new signings in there isn’t easy and it addresses one of the biggest problems the club had prior to his arrival.

They did a great job making the mess better, that's for sure. However, they still had to liquidate prime assets to do so. Fortunately for them, they have buy back options. They thankfully had enough leverage (ie their incredible brand value) to put that in the contract.

So, yeah, good job.

So with all the recent Barca signings, who is and isn't actually registered with La Liga as of today?

I doesn’t matter. All that matters is who is registered by the time the registration window closes. I’ll give you 25 guesses who will be registered by then.

Kounde for sure a starter for Barca. But who will play beside him? Pique is old and tired. Is Christiansen really good enough?

Yeah, Pique is old, but tired? Irrelevant since he was still our best CB last season and I can’t think of many who were better in La Liga either. Christiansen looks good enough. Anyway, it will be Araujo.

With Kounde being official I finally have faith in this team

LOL. My faith comes from the golden child.

I would also note that it was % of a prime asset (singular as of now) which still probably leaves them with a revenue stream higher than all but what, 10 clubs out there? That’s not to mention that if said asset/revenue stream goes up at some stage they get closer to where they were anyway. Add to that they’re still clearly a draw for top players who are willing to come for relatively cheap wages, though I could see that change quickly in a bad scenario. Add to that still the fact they still recruit well at the youth stage and got all of Pedri, Araujo and Fati for example for how much? Find me a club that has a Pedri and an Araujo and then tell me how much they paid for them, and how old they are.

Anyway, a LONG way to go with the club to get more in line with the rest of the “big clubs” out there when it comes to finances, especially when you consider many of those in La Liga are doing it under more difficult circumstances.

Hard not to be excited. Xavi has proving to do but they should challenge at least the league if not all fronts.

I agree, sadly. I’m not really a big fan of anyone we signed apart from Torre, but I’ll probably start liking some of these guys. I mean if I end up liking Lewandowski…. I’ll probably have to PM with my buddy @S E P H once a day and not just once a week. And if I start asking for every Madrid player like @Vasilevskiy then you need to start reporting my posts so I get banned.

Arsenal paid 27M Pounds for Saliba and Saka who combine to be a year younger than Pedri + Araujo.

Great example. I think Saliba and Araujo are a wash, but Saka maybe doesn’t get to Pedri’s level when it’s all said and done though they occupy different positions.

TLDR:
City are interested in Paqueta. Spurs like him too and bid around €40m+ for him in January but Lyon rejected. Paqueta has turned away advances from Arsenal and Newcastle.

Saka is great.

Saliba can be great, but Arteta has to play him.

The Barca duo are both uncontested starters.
Saliba was an uncontested starter in a top 5 league for the last three years. Araujo wasn't.

Great example. I think Saliba and Araujo are a wash, but Saka maybe doesn’t get to Pedri’s level when it’s all said and done though they occupy different positions.
Could be true re: Saka/Pedri. Could also not be true.

I’m surprised “bigger” clubs weren’t interested. Also, was wondering why Arsenal never signed him.

Saliba isn't a wash when he has played more games despite being younger even though he had a covid shortened season and six months of 0 game because he was Artetaed.
Araujo needs to be healthy a full season before we can say he's in this category.

Not a bad mercato by Barcelona but I don't believe it brings them much closer to the title. IMO Pedri, Fati and Dembele are the keys for Barca to contend for the title. If they can't stay healthy or in form, I don't see Barca doing much.

It will depend on how the new signings integrate, but it very obviously brings them closer to the title. Even if they finish second again, they’ll surely be closer on points. Squad is very obviously improved and has notably more depth. And Fatie isn’t even a key since he wasn’t last season either.

LOL, as always, feel free to quote me. And yes, it’s a wash as of right now.

I think this was last summer. They would've been choosing between him and Odegaard I assume.

Edit: Or maybe before they signed Vieira this summer? Idk.
