Buyout mania is just thrown around Willy nilly this time of year each year. There never seems to be consequences to the GM. The common opinion is that owners have bottomless pockets. Considering each year less than half the teams operate profitable there should be some repercussion in the front office. It's out a doubt there are players in the league paid like superstar's but they really are just AHL guys.

It's does not matter if a team has cap space these are real dollars spent reguardless of the situation each ownership group is not in the buisness to lose money. And each year the price goes up, a team now ties up close to two billion dollars to own. Then turn around spending millions more in buyouts due to crappy decisions on contracts.

LOL, I and many others called that one the day it was signed, what an obviously horrible deal, but happy for a long time maritime warrior that he cashed in

Seriously, that contract seemed at the time to be a glaring example of too much, too soon, for what seemed to be a pretty limitedly talented kid that just happened to click with a burgeoning superstar. He should have a shrine to Dahlin in his mansion
Definitely not a long time Maritime guy, Killorn is a Quebec guy

He grew up in Quebec, but he's still from Halifax. I see what you mean about the long time part, I was referring to what his time in the NHL, but in hindsight it doesn't read like that

Kuemper is likely playing his final season. Can't stay healthy, and a buyout was likely the plan all along.

This isn't awful. A little worse than I expected, but not the end of the world

I am wondering with the health is he can go full Pronger or Price

Even with the buyout, the Kings should be in a good position if Portillo works out and they can keep finding guys like Copely and Rittich

Portillo would pretty much offset the cap hit in 25-27 and goaltending , for all intents and purposes, would cost the same cap wise for the rough part of the buyout
