but I wont be convinced until I see it on the ice all season. But I feel Murray, Cam, Matty, and Joey are all ready to take the next step.
I know a lot of people feel Murray isn't ready, but how many of you have been in the doctors office with him? In the meetings with the coaches and medical staff? In the locker room with the training staff? I mean the kid has been skating almost the entire time he was injured. There was a period in the beginning where he couldn't do anything, and since that point he has been doing nothing but conditioning and strengthening. On top of being NHL ready LAST season. Yes it takes time to be game ready, but he has an entire offseason to get into game shape. Between development camp, training camp, and preseason(yes we have a FULL preseason this year) he should be more than NHL ready. . Just my .02 though, I fully expect to see Murray in Union Blue for more than just a "tryout" phase in the big leagues. I would be really shocked to see him play more than 5-10 games in the AHL.
Unless
you've been in the doctor's office with him, I don't see how you can make this argument.
Moreover, there's a lot more to being NHL ready, than just being in game shape. Murray has never played in a professional game; he's never played against men, and he hasn't played a hockey game in nearly a year. I'm not sure how you can somehow decipher whether or not he's ready to take the next step, when he barely played last year.
I think people tend to want to rush prospects to see "the next new thing." I constantly argued that Johansen shouldn't have been brought up when he was, and he probably should have. Defensemen generally take longer to develop. Being the "most ready" prospect in a weak draft doesn't mean anything to me, really, especially a year and season-ending shoulder injury later.
Unless there's some sort of trade, Murray should likely start in the AHL playing pairing minutes. We have the defensive depth to actually develop him. Let him play where Larson isn't afraid of scratching or benching players who aren't working their tail off, and where Springfield has had some success lately. This is where the development of the hard work culture starts. Nikitin's contract ends next year, which opens a spot for him in the top-six. Prout and Erixon have less than a season of experience in the NHL level, adding Murray would make half of our defense extremely inexperienced. It irks me when posters are inking him into the top four when he's not only not played in the AHL at all, but barely played last year.
