Sudbury Wolves 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

With picks 37 & 38 I would have expected the ‘09 selected then the ‘08, so maybe? But the last time I read the rule, it was two first selections and any other two true rookies as wildcards. So up to four can play unlimited games.
It's such a weird situation to know how it will work like did they call them in wrong and make a mistake.

Bennett and Smith sound like they intend to come, same as Provorov. Then you have the situation with Cameron where realistically if you drafted him you intend to have him in the lineup.

So is that your 4 or are Provorov and Cameron exempt from the rule as they aren't "True" rookies and we can still sign a Harris and someone else.

Also does Provorov count towards our import limit?

Doesn’t count against # of imports as he played in US for a year and was able to enter the Priority Draft.

Will be interesting how many we sign out of drafts. 6 players from priority draft, 2 from U18 and a combo of players from import between the 2 we have rights on plus any picks we make. (Hopefully we avoid a chromiak, vondras, dvorsky log jam)

It should only be ‘09s counting as true rookies. Provorov will not be considered an import as he was eligible for the OHL draft.
I think there were 81 US born or played in the US selected in this OHL draft compared to 33 in the previous OHL draft.

Projected line up for 25-26 based on imports reporting and Hage!

Nemac Chovan Hage
Walton Villeneuve Pharand OA
Clayton Henderson Coughlan OA
Chitaroni Bennet Provanov
Doucet Dean Smith
Najda Eccleston McCharles
Bodhi Walker Booth
Bremher

O’Dell Mews
Kearns Ewles OA
Smith Blonda
Wreggit Connors

Marshall
Cameron
Leonard

Some tradable pieces such as Roberts, Chartier and possibly Bruce, McCharles etc

Then there are some players that came in as call ups such Walker, and Booth, Najda and others.

Wolves will need to add one 19 year old dman to help ease in some of the younger defence.

Supposedly Hage is already committed to going back to Michigan.

We also need more slots for the two U18 picks potentially.

As i rebuilding year I wonder if it would be more beneficial to have Provorov and Bennett higher up in the line up.

We have had a habit of automatically putting our rookies on the 4th line instead of where they may fit better.

I'd look at
Walton - Villy - Pharand
Provorov - Chovan - Coughlan
Chitironi - Henderson - Bennett
Dean - Clayton - Smith
Doucet, Dean

O'Dell - Mews
Kearns - Blonda
Smith - Ewels
Wreggitt

Cameron
Marshall

Ottawa ever fleece you guys.
I didn't like the trade when it was announced. He wasn't what the wolves needed and RP can't himself. He's always forcing matters. Not thinking with a clear head. Look where you're at in the conference and move accordingly. Brutal.

He should be dismissed. This is not the 1st time.

RP should have been gone the second we got swept and I could argue before that.

We gave up Jackson, and 8 picks in the 2-3 rds essentially for just Roberts. Who either isn't back or possibly moved to Oshawa for less so he can play with his brother.

RP should be banned 🚫 from making any more deals with the Bulldogs. He's to impulsive

Hey now without those incredible moves the wolves would have, lost in the first round..?

Shit.

Only draft picks that were conditional in the trade were the 7th, 8th and 9th round picks.

Mews signing with Michigan should come as no surprise! Wolves gain back some picks. They took a shot and it didn’t work out in the playoffs. I’m sure this will happen to more players with other teams as we move forward in this new OHL. Sudbury happens to be the first team with a 19 year old leave to NCAA. This will be more common moving forward. Hopefully it’s a different team so the temperature can ease off in Sudbury.

It's been known for awhile now Mews wasn't coming back next season, so people shouldn't be surprised. What surprises me is how does Papineau still have a job as Wolves GM? It's baffling at this point. Last year was their big chance and Dario and Papineau absolutely blew it. Get a GM that can build a winner, Papineau isn't the answer Dario. Good luck competing against North Bay going forward! They are way ahead of us in all facets, and they had another fantastic draft with their 09's. We gotta pray that the Wolves knocked this draft out of the park with the 09's going forward.
