Sudbury Wolves 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

Not saying you are wrong but he walked in and was relegated to 2nd unit probably didn't sit well with him. Could have been more going on but that would be a visible issue

That is a bit weird, and on the coaches. Mews & Pinelli had the ‘67s PP near or at the top of the conference.

That was always my thought, most of the back half DeAngelis got most of the PP time, Mews was with McCoy on the second unit. Mews took over Blonda's spot.

There still is one little caveat to all of this. Mews was drafted out of the OHL. We don’t know the rules or if they changed but he has until next June 1 to sign with Calgary or he goes back in the draft.

This could still be all a ploy to get Calgary to sign him to a 1st round pick comp package. If they don’t do it this summer, he goes back in the draft etc.

If he does end up signing, his commitment means nothing since he cannot play NCAA.

IMO, he is sour because he wasn’t a first round pick. So either he gets a 1st round pick deal or he re-enters and gets drafted in round one…. Or at least I think that’s what he thinks…..

And/or choose his OHL team; Mews has real leverage.

Then Sudbury gets paid. So, not all is lost on that end.

I don’t know how to read this situation to be honest. We know he takes zero accountability. It could be about that or it could simply be he wants the Michigan experience. Dunno for sure.

Mews played a lot of PP1, not at first but he did soon later.

Soon after Delic was injured though. Mews should have been PP1 - LD from game one with the wolves imo. Mews was ahead of Parekh in points and maybe leafing the league in PP pts at the Christmas break.
Not saying that I liked the way Papineau managed, but I think the results are quite a bit different if Delic & Musty stay healthy.

he had a lot of PP1 time, he was ahead of Deanglis, once he got the grasp of Wolves PP, he was first option. I say after a week he was PP1 D.

Sounds like the Flames retain his rights now.

Ottawa gets a haul
Mews gets to go be a pouty child at Michigan
Calgary keeps his rights while they see if he can develop a defensive game.

Everyone wins except wolves fans, as is tradition with this franchise.

How does that work in retaining his rights? has he signed?

He is not, but it seems like the NHL is going with some of interpretation of the NCAA rights vs the OHL ones when a player jumps from the OHL to the NCAA. Atleast that is how I'm reading it. I assume Terry Doyle has connections to those who would know that he inquired with.
That deal is a fireable offence it’s actually crazy Papineau is still employed I feel bad for Sudbury fans
Somehow this feels just as bad as the Connor Burgess years because there's been so much more wasted potential.

I believe this is a ploy to get signed asap. I’m not sure how much he’ll play at Michigan until he learns how to play defence. It’s improved under Barney and crew but he has a long way to go

So now with NCAA commits being so popular, does it mean a rebuild can only be 2yrs? I'm just saying with guys like Provorov, what's the point in taking them unless you plan on winning within 2?
