Sudbury Wolves 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

Ziliotto has put up similar numbers to Jack Pridham who also left the BCHL this year to join Kitchener.

Pridham currently over ppg with Kitchener, hopefully Ziliotto has a similar impact. One can hope.

https://ottawasun.com/sports/hockey/junior-hockey/67s-send-mews-sudbury-nine-piece-packagedefenceman "Henry Mews, their leading scorer, who a source close to the team says is NCAA-bound in September."
May be true, but if Calgary signs him as others have said he won’t got NCAA. The article also mentions that Pinelli wanted to stay in Ottawa as per team sources. Well multiple sources have also said that he wasn’t traded because Ottawa couldn’t get anyone worth trading him for due to those players not wanting to waive NTC due to Cameron. So who knows what’s actually going to happen. Just going to enjoy it for the last half of the year and hope for a deep run.

This team is becoming a penality machine. Barney needs to fix that. Didn't like alot of what I saw tonight. Walton needs to be better against the wall. He made some lazy plays tonight . Lacked effort. Number 1 D pairing need to be better. Dogs a very good young team. Plenty of weapons. Let's hope things settle down after today and they're better Sunday afternoon.

Managed to get out to the game. Sorry to anyone sitting near me. Was good right till the end.

Glad I got to witness the first game. New DMen looked good but Roberts was beaten outside quite a bit. When Mews was on with him he was able to make it work and attack the puck behind Roberts.

Speaking of Mews, yeah I like him. A great player who attacked the puck and made plays happen even though he got to the arena 20 minutes before I did.

We hung out with the #1 team in the conference today with a couple of scratches. Looking forward to seeing what the new guys can do after spending some time with the team!

This was my sentiment as well, yes, we had our mistakes however we were able to keep it close. Excited to see where the rest of the season goes.

Liked Mews, hopefully Paps had some conditions built into Mews returning next year. #41 looked like a deer in headlights, and Roberts not worth the draft capital we gave up at this point. What's with Paps over paying Branford for a rugged dman like last years van fleet deal, wouldn't Protz look good on our blue line now?

Mews is pure skillful and that was evident on his passing skills on the rush. Once the entire line up is in play and this team has a bit of time to gel I believe we can be very hard to beat. Last night the Wolves deserved a better fate. Not sure if all those 3rd period penalties were worthy and really was the difference maker of the game.

Add in Musty, Clayton, Villeneuve and Zillotto and this team doesn't lose last night.

As for Roberts. Tough game for him to slide into after being dealt. New system's and coaches along with new rink to get used to. With this deadline the prices were extremely high and that was evident by the lack of movement yesterday. So really breaking down the deal you really are paying for this year and an OA year since he's already 19. Most 19 year old you would acquire in the offseason of any value are going for multiple 3rd and possibly a 2nd. So premature to say he wasn't worth the draft capital imo.

Brehmer looked decent for his first game and having little time to practice with the club. I really like his size and has decent hands for big man. With a little time I think he can become a really good bottom six player.

Niagara has a really good squad. They use their speed to get after pucks. Not an easy to beat especially when you have Flores stopping at least 40-50 pucks a game his entire career. But when I look at them next year losing Losko, Flores, Van Vliet, He among others to graduation I'm not sure they will be as competitive as they are this season. Of course they have some incredible young talent but will need to pay heavily to replace those top 4.

Yes Protz would look good right now in a Wolves jersey and I'm sure Paps would like to take that deal back. Sometimes you lose out on a deal. You can't predict how things were going to transpire last year but if we would have won a championship we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Let's enjoy the ride this group and hope they remain healthy the rest of the way! My wish is that they get home ice advantage for the playoffs. Some really tough match ups coming up and we need to win as many as we can as the ice usually gets smaller and teams get tougher as we get to late stages of the schedule.

Lets go Wolves!!!

Reviewing Sudbury's draft capital they are not in to bad of shape with this years draft or 2026. They do get back from Kitchener their 2nd and 4th draft picks in 2026 from the Hage deal. They will need to recoup picks for the 2027 and 2028 drafts. Lots of time for that!

Seeing Brehmer on first line Pp at times last night was puzzling, noticed Blondas ice time reduced but that is only an indication of an older presence on defence. Overall aside from a few saves that should have been made, although Chucky played well we should have won this game.

I saw that too, but the first line was already out for long time when the penalty happened, had no choice to go to second PP unit.

That was part of my frustration last night and perhaps I was a little too critical. As I thought that game was there for the taking but never took it. Long day for the players and additions so we move on. With Villy and Musty coming back will surely help and and the bottom 6 can be figured out. They need to tighten up in some areas. Odd man rushes and penalties for sure. I think they'll look alot better tomorrow afternoon.

Wolfman: The voice of reason. Great summary on draft Capital.
