Keep in mind that Mews is an 18 year old. You trade him next year for an ‘09 1st. The total acquisition cost for this stretch run for Mews will be the best value of any trade available. Remember, the Petes basically traded a 2nd round pick and JVV for one full season of Owen Beck and Aiden Young.

Below average but his offensive game is off the charts. He has a tough time squaring up guys in front of his net. But, on a good team, he won’t need to worry as much about defending his net.

Ok but the wolves need a defensive defenseman imo. Somone who won't make it easy for others in front of the net. O'Dell isn't it. They need to upgrade on O'Dell, again imo.

I don’t think Dickinson is available so getting offence and defence in the same player is likely not possible. Pick your poison.

I'll take the defensive dman over offense re: that position. I don't want forwards getting to comfortable in front of my goalie and that's happened to the wolves a few too many times this season.

I think the Pinelli deal for picks is possible. I don’t think Boyd has an ‘08 on the table for Pinelli so it will come down to how much he likes the other teams feared players which would include picks. I don’t mind a picks only deal similar to Rehkopf to be honest. I highly doubt Boyd likes that though. I think he feels he needs to bring back a high ceiling prospect. Jsut a gut feeling on my part based on how he operates.

They have flexibility with Mews as an 18 year old. That deal almost certainly would require Blonda. Personally, I would trade Mews straight up for Blonda even though the market value would also require picks added but I think with the lack of high ceiling d-Men this last draft and next draft, I think Blonda is worth more than the ‘08 wingers. If Boyd doesn’t’ get the exact deal he wants for Mews now, he will wait until next deadline (unless there is truth to the potential of Mews playing at Michigan next year). If he does intend on Michigan next year, different story. T hat means Mews is a graduating player. His value then reverts to that of Allen plus a bit more.
 
Getting back to Musty returning to action Friday, great news!! Had Musty played in the AHL up to now and was sent back to the Wolves just before the deadline there would be a parade down Elgin Street.
So used those saved picks that you didn’t need to spend to get the best player in the O and add some nice support/depth players.
Let’s have fun in the second half watching this team play and grow.
We may not win the East, but I have a feeling we are gonna be a real pain in the ASS to play against in the playoffs.
 
All this talk about the Wolves trading Blonda and I don't understand why Paps would do that other than mismanagement. He should be a Wolf for 3-4 years depending on where they sit in his last playing year. I understand the way the OHL works in its cyclical nature, but Blonda is going to grow into an all-star defenseman and those are the types of players you keep around to teach your younger players when the time comes. Any trade involving Blonda I will dislike. Especially this year if we're "going for it".

100% agree Blonda is the exact kind of player we want in sudbury. Hope he isn't dealt anywhere.
 
IF Blonda is used in a deal for an ‘06 like Mews that can be turned around next deadline and get a 1st round ‘09 in the deal (RE: McCue and Owen Beck as the most recent examples), then the total cost of acquisition is VERY VERY low in the aggregate.

I understand everyone likes the player and there are a lot of reasons to keep him, especially when it is for a half year rents. I get it. But, if you are seriously making an attempt to win a Championship and you have an opportunity to essentially trade a 2nd and a 3rd when everything plays out for an elite player, I think you have to take the opportunity. Maybe the player you get in return isn’t as good as the one you traded but I think people in Owen Sound are ecstatic they got Zurawski and used Addy and I don’t think the people in Peterborough are too unhappy to have Aiden Young instead of JVV. So, the possibility fully exists that you could add Mews and replace Blonda next year at the deadline with another strong ‘09. It is mostly a wash except for maybe a couple picks and hurt feelings.

Same goes for Luchanko….another ‘06.
