Subban is most definitely a #1 defenceman

Josi wants to QB the PP and take one time slappers from the blue line.
Subban wants to QB the PP and take one time slappers from the blue line.
There's room on each team for only one of these.
Josi is it.
Why does Nashville want to shed 9M? Because they're a budget team.

Ummmm. There are 2 PP Units. Nashville's two see about 1 minute of each PP, so put PK on one and Josi on the other. Problem solved.

What do you trade PK Subban for? All other logic aside, all other random, drunk, stumbling thoughts aside, what would Nashville possibly want back?

Nothing. At least nothing that's available.

Nashville would want front line offence, top end prospects and cap savings to the tune of about 3M.
I'd say they need a RW for the top line, a top prospect winger, and defence they can bring along at budget, and a total cap savings of 3M or so.
That's 3 pieces for one plus the cap savings.
This makes sense to me knowing that Nashville is a budget team. Subban as a Predator makes zero sense (in spite of homer justifications).

Not only that, PK is RH shot, Josi is LH shot.

Yeah, going by my own experience with hockey players, they just hate playing with other skilled players.

You know what they were paying for Weber, right?

Ok ill play with the conspiracy theory some. Subban and josi are both top pairing puck moving dmen. I believe subban will likely be paired with ekholm and josi with Ellis giving us two d pairings with amazing puck moving skills. If we were to trade one of josi/subban it would likely be josi. Ekholm is better fit for the top pairing duty then Ellis. Josi has a great caphit so there would likely be more offers getting us a better return. Trade josi for a forward plus a 2nd pairing d that can slip in next to Ellis that wont have to be protected allowing Nashville to protect 7 forwards 3 d.

It was somewhat forced, but they didn't have to match it. And they could have moved Weber a long time ago if they had a huge problem with his deal. They ended up trading him for a better, younger and currently cheaper player. They are hardly "shedding" $9M.

Nashville does not actually want Subban but only acquired him to flip his contract in a bifurcated three-way deal?

Okay.

When David Poile pulled the trigger on this deal was he sitting on a grassy knoll, and did he act alone?

Maybe then we'll know what really happened.

Otherwise, the whole idea makes no sense to me.

Traded by Nashville, after paying out the most expensive years of the contract. Traded for a player that actually makes substantially MORE money over the next 6 years (length of Subban's contract). You're so far off base that it's laughable.

Cheaper by 1 million this year, makes substantially more over the life of his contract.

They would be dense to trade Subban again. The only reason they probably voided his clause was so IF he falls off a cliff towards the end of his contract, they can move him without any restrictions

puzzling trade.
Nashville already have their #1 in Roman Josi.
Why would they pay 9M for a 2nd #1 defenceman?
Nashville quickly voided Subban's no movement clause before the ink was dry on the trade.
I think Subban is headed somewhere else.
Thoughtful comments?

Sorry. Jose is not better than Subban. Atleast not on this planet. Maybe on earth 2 in the othet time line

Have one
Have one

Saving $3 million does nothing. We're looking to be contenders. That's not a time to cut costs.

[MOD] No Subban isn't going anywhere. If you can turn your aging #1D into a younger #1D to go with your already #1D that deal is a no brainer. As for the voiding of his NMC, why the hell wouldn't they? They have no obligation to uphold something that could hinder their future ability to move him if the right deal comes along years from now.

Nashville's power play is going to be absolutely disgusting. Their team in general is pretty sick aside from future goaltending (Saros maybe?) and a future 2C (Fiala? Does he play centre still?). If they can plug those holes they could be contending for the next decade easily.

Uhhh for one, Subban is significantly better than Josi, or basically any defenceman in the league besides Erik Karlsson, and second, Mattias Ekholm and Ryan Ellis are also better than Roman Josi, and having many good players is a good thing.

Yeah, no team wants a stacked defense, they're obviously gonna trade him

Nashville doesn't have a history creating and relying upon strong defensive personnel or anything like that

Nashville is a budget team, thats why Weber was targeted with such an offer. Everyone who isn't a Nashville homers knows this. Everyone who isnt a Nashville homer also knew the team would want to get rid of that contract eventually. They found a sucker in Mtl. Poile will look for another sucker for Subban

You're the only one who thinks this. Just give it up already.
