2 absolute studs who play a finesse game with pace at center. Zegras is an 01 born and Stutzle is an 02 both have put up similar PPGs in their first 2 seasons, who would you rather build around and why?

I don't think Stutzle is going to be playing that "finesse game" very long. He looked like a different player once he shifted to center. If he can put on some weight/strength this off-season he'll start to play a more north/south game.

Great poll though, two of my favourites in the entire league, both are studs and will be for a long time.

To add to this, Stutzle had ~ 2x more hits and 2x more blocked shots than Zegras this previous season. Not that this means he is better or anything like that... but definitely plays a different, far more physically aggressive style.

Yeah surprised this poll hasn't been made already. I'm a Sens fan but I think Zegras definitely has some bite in him too, he won't have as many hits as Stutzle but the kid's got swag and isn't scared.

Food for thought :

Tim Stutzle had 51 pts in 63 games after moving to Center on November 24th (he was still 19 y/o), including 31 pts in the last 27 games (just after turning 20 y/o)

His wingers have been Drake Batherson, 22 y/o rookie, Connor Brown, Alex Formenton, Adam Gaudette and Nick Paul

Drake was the only pure Top-6 forward there and he played 15% of his shifts with him.

I feel like there should be a too close to call option right now…. Can go either way really

Voted Stutzle but I think this is what I would have voted if possible

Some zegras food for thought:

Zegras had 60 points in his last 69 games last year as a rookie playing on a weak offensive team. His most common linemate has been back and forth between the NHL and the AHL and had a career high 22 points before this year. I think he struggled at wing, but finished with 9 in 9 at center the prior year

it’ll be interesting to see how zegras looks when he starts getting a chance to play with nhl caliber talents.

I have them pretty even, Both teams are happy with their player

Drake is a legit stud, and I've heard Formenton is good too. But Zegras' linemates were previously pretty unproven too, right? Like I'm looking at their lines right now...who the hell is Buddy Robinson? Is that a real person?

Buddy robinson
Gary meyhew
Sam carrick
Nic deslauries
Sonny Milano

A whose is who of top 6 talent, like if an ahl had those guys in their top 6 I like their chances of being a playoff team

He did play with Rakell comtois and very sparingly Terry at times

Stutzle almost exclusively played with Drake during the worst stretch of Drake's season, in which he was just returning from his major injury AND a flu that caused him to lose upwards of 10lbs. Stutzle really didn't have anyone who worked well with him outside for a 15-20 game stretch with Formenton... but then teams took note of Formenton and he fell off pretty hard.

Again, not using this to say Stutzle is better. IMO it is too close to call. Just adding context.

Zegras is prob the wrong player to compare line mates with …. Idk if he was in trouble every game or something but Eakins refused to play him with any sort of talent

Yeah, I'm not making a comparison at all. Not saying Stutzle had worse line mates or anything like that. But there is a reason why the top priority for this summer is finding Stutzle a high-end winger. Partially, this is due to the excellent chemistry that's already been established between Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I suspect Stutzle actually did have superior line mates.. they just weren't much to write home about, either.

Zegras seems more refined at this point, lots of time for this to change.

As good as Jimmy is right now, he seems very raw and rough around the edges. That helps me believe there’s still a few levels to be unlocked.

Zegras is better right now, but has an extra year of development. Both ultra high ceiling players with compete, let’s see who gets closer to that skyscraper ceiling.

I voted Zegras for now. Hopefully for Stützle in the future. Confident both will be studs.

That should be anaheims goal…. But I think they are more interested in shooting for a top 3 pick next year

Maybe they’ll let Terry and zegras play together for the people tho
