The idea of splitting them up and spreading the scoring out isn't a bad one

23 34 74
91 88 67
89 29 16
In this case I think you’d need to make a move for a C, Holmberg isn’t good enough. I’d see about getting Dvorak to play with Marner. Shouldn’t cost much and there would be instant chemistry.

To me this is biggest difference.

When we either match or exceed the other team in the intensity/work ethic department, we way more often than not win regardless of the opponent.

Too often we don't win this battle and have a mindset that our superior skills or talent will win the game.
This is Berubes biggest challenge is getting that intensity every night.

McAvoy could make the Olympics dive team with that performance.

So hard to believe Marchand hasn't gotten the shit kicked out of him yet. Calling him a rat is an insult to rats. He's just a cheap shot coward who for some reason has managed to avoid retributive justice his whole career.

You'd think someone would have tuned him up good by now.

It appears there's a disporortionate amount of hockey players with a moustache compared to the general population. Furthermore the number of Ned Flander's in the league seems to increase every year. I'm not sure if the player's think it's a cool fashion statement or if they think it helps them play better hockey.

Either way they're wrong.

I remember the last time the Leafs got a backup goaltender with good underlying numbers to be their starter. It worked out well for about a third of the season. Then reality set in and Campbell couldn't stop a puck.

I'm not saying the same thing will happen to Stolarz but I'm not not saying it either.
Huge difference. Stolarz is calmer in the net. Bigger than Campbell. Stolarz is mentally stable. Stolarz came in with better numbers. Night and day.

Didn’t watch the game, but saw the abbreviatied version this morning, looked like they played well regardless of 34 not able to play. When you have a good goalie you don’t need overpaid shinny hockey players………

Stolarz gets hit in neck, stays in game, it was 4-0 and he shuts out the beaners. Does he not know what team he plays for:sarcasm:

Awesome game from him.
That shot would have put Woll on the IR for at least a month……

I am old school as anyone get around here. I appreciate that part of the game. But he's getting paid 1.5 and he's slow otherwise. if he's adding that element and sending a message, then there are other players who get paid league minimum can bring that
They need to move on, if he’s such a great locker room presence maybe a young up snd coming team could use him…….

He’s a rat, but what team wouldn’t want him if only to not have to play against him……

I mean, I'd bring that Rempe kid in to be an x-factor if we wanted an enforcer, but I think you generally just want a tough mean player who can play in that role... Lorentz is not bad.
Other teams have better players in the pugilist role, how hard can it be to acquire someone who can fight and not be s liability when playing the game?

What does this mean to the uneducated? What are the important numbers to look at here?

It's definitely not gospel.

It shows that the game was pretty even.

CF = Chances For, CA = Chances against, SCF = Scoring chances for, SCA = Scoring chances against, HDCF = High danger chances for

There’s a lot of wear and tear on hockey player. If you play long enough you miss a whole season worth of games due to injury.

Was it all game or 5v5. The Bruins had a ton of chances on their PP, Leafs scored early on theirs.

Everyone wants a 26-30 yo Marchand. Although he was first to tackle Tanev, whereas Nylander just watched Suter fill in Marner and did absolutely nothing. He wouldn’t hurt.

That’s the difference between the Leafs and the Bruins in a nutshell, all the talent in the world doesn’t mean shit when the heart is weak……

Not quite, we are worse when missing 1 of them, guess who?

Missing JT 52-21-9
Missing Rielly 46-20-7
Missing Matty 36-19-2
Missing William 46-39 12
Missing Marner 20-17-5

Team record past 8 years 358-189-73

Just more stats pointing to who we need most. lol!
Which is why Marner disappearing in the first round every year means we never advance.

Anyhow, this is a nice result, but certainly points as an indictment of Matthews' leadership and play lately that suddenly the PP works and the team pulls their pants up when he's out of the lineup. He's out with bumps, this isn't really some sort of rally-around-the-fallen-leader effect, this is other guys stepping up and the team clicking.

It’s still a concern. Nylander knows that it takes that willingness to muck it up and not get pushed around yet he didn’t come to his mates aid. I can only conclude that it doesn’t matter enough to him.

Thanks. Seemed like a pretty even game watching.
How could both Teams have identical TOI?

Pretty much sums up his career.

I get so many predictions wrong, but I liked the Anthony Stolarz signing the minute it was made and I'm glad to see it working out. I think he's ideally still a tandem goalie, but I'd be comfortable going to him for a tough stretch of games. Big, calm presence in the net. Just the guy you want in a series against a team like the Bruins.

There’s other guys on the ice to do that. Nylander and Marner are not going to jump guys in that situation. Just grab someone in the pile at least. If they start getting into it, I would expect them to defend themselves and not get slapped around.

Why? Matthews did.

Our boys played a decent game, but there is still much to clean up. Stolarz was tremendous, but once again we allowed a team to have far too much puck possession in our end, in the third period, which has the opportunity to be dangerous. However, we did play prevent d pretty well, and despite all of the possession, we really didn't give up much in the way of dangerous opportunities.

It's nice to see the PP and PK clicking, and I thought that Domi and Robertson had some nice moments in the game. Robertson's effort probably keeps him in the lineup for now, but at some point, all that matters is some production. Holmberg I thought was the weakest of the forwards, outside of Reaves. Patches had a really nice game, and OEL is far better than I could have ever expected. He seems to have found his Arizona form again, where people thought he was a star D.

Despite was @HellasLEAF thinks, Boston is NOT an excellent team, despite our prior record against them, and we all saw that tonight. Their depth scoring is even worse than ours, and their D, while big, isn't particularly mobile. There is a solid chance they don't make the playoffs this year. A good win against a rival is always great, but I wouldn't get too excited about one game, against a struggling team.

It's a win, we are second in the Atlantic, despite a relatively rough start to the year, so I'll take it.

The next two games are Detroit and Montreal... games that in theory we should win, but this group never makes it easy. Hopefully we do take those wins, and take steps towards being a good team, with the right mental preparation. We need the depth to start to step up, and shoulder some of the offensive load.
