First shutout against broons in five years. Thank you, Stoli. Vodka is better with Stolarz, need to wait till Friday night.

Curious to know the underlying numbers of this game, or did we just goalie them.

Odds are the power play worked this game because no Matthews means they can't spend the entire PP looking for him like he's Ovechkin or Stamkos.

They play a little more straight ahead and with pace on the PP without Matthews. Also Matthews isn't the most useful on the PP when he isn't blasting it and looking off okay looks for worse looks later.

I hope after this game they see that it's ok to split up Matthews and Marner and run them on 3 separate lines so we can possibly have 3 lines consistently contributing offensively. Another C would be great to have to play with Marner so Domi could play on Matthews wing.

I was thinking the same thing. What does this look like? I assume we keep the JT line together. How do we line-up the other six?

Knies Matthews Robertson
Pacioretty Tavares Nylander
McMann Domi Marner

Lorentz Kampf Holmberg Reaves Jarnkrok Dewar...Minten

I am not sure I have the best top nine configuration there. I think if we keep the three duos together, then maybe we swap McMann and Robertson and I am not sure I like that either. Obviously we have to move out some fourth liners soon.

It has to be a long time since the Leafs scored 3 PP goals in a game.

Stolarz was fantastic. Defensively the Leafs were good, especially OEL and Timmins.

Reaves on the ice with Pacioretty getting his head pounded on the ice repeatedly and did nothing. He did nothing the rest of the game. If that's not a one way ticket to the press box or waivers, I don't know what is. Useless.
February 17, 2024 - 4 PP goals against Anaheim.

This is actually the 4th time in this calendar year we have scored 3 or more on the PP.

Knies in the slot causing trouble, much better at screening the goalie that JT.

Knies in the slot causing trouble on both PP goals.

Knies in the slot causing trouble (where have I heard that before?) and the deflection.

Without Matthews they had JT in his spot on the right side and Knies in JT's spot in the slot. I've been saying for years that JT doesn't screen the goalie or cause much trouble in the slot. I don't think the problem is Matty so much as JT. I'd like to see Knies in the slot, Matty and Willy on either side, and Mitch at the point with either Mo or OEL.

Excellent game by Stolarz and a well earned shutout.

Marner, Knies, and Nylander very good. Mo with a three-point night!

McAvoy could make the Olympics dive team with that performance.

So hard to believe Marchand hasn't gotten the shit kicked out of him yet. Calling him a rat is an insult to rats. He's just a cheap shot coward who for some reason has managed to avoid retributive justice his whole career.

You'd think someone would have tuned him up good by now.

It appears there's a disporortionate amount of hockey players with a moustache compared to the general population. Furthermore the number of Ned Flander's in the league seems to increase every year. I'm not sure if the player's think it's a cool fashion statement or if they think it helps them play better hockey.

Either way they're wrong.

I remember the last time the Leafs got a backup goaltender with good underlying numbers to be their starter. It worked out well for about a third of the season. Then reality set in and Campbell couldn't stop a puck.

I'm not saying the same thing will happen to Stolarz but I'm not not saying it either.

This team always plays so much better when one of Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Rielly is missing, it's crazy.
Not quite, we are worse when missing 1 of them, guess who?

Missing JT 52-21-9
Missing Rielly 46-20-7
Missing Matty 36-19-2
Missing William 46-39 12
Missing Marner 20-17-5

Team record past 8 years 358-189-73

Just more stats pointing to who we need most. lol!

I like it when our guys work harder than the opposition.

To me this is biggest difference.

When we either match or exceed the other team in the intensity/work ethic department, we way more often than not win regardless of the opponent.

Too often we don't win this battle and have a mindset that our superior skills or talent will win the game.
