The Oilers org are cowards when it comes to goaltending. It's as though they decided to give up and stop trying to improve because Campbell backfired, and/or they are worried about hurting Skinner or Pickard's or Schwartz's feelings because they're good guys.

It's also seems that there is a mandate to defend and protect our goaltending, with nearly the entirety of Edmonton media all making a point of defending our tandem, making excuses for them when they shit the bed, and reinforcing the notion that Stu is cheap and therefore we should shut up and accept him.

It's incredibly frustrating that all the evidence points to Stu being a 1B or a back-up, but the Oilers are likely going to sign him for $5-6 mil per year to be the starter for the rest of McDrai's prime years. There hasn't even been a whisper that Oilers management would like to improve the goaltending, so I have given up hope.

Skinner just sucks when the games are difficult. Period.

Guy seemingly wilts and then the team up front has to go supernova to be close in those games

But this isn't really news. Just like last years 16 win streak, guy was still flirting -10 GSAx iirc

This is probably an easier to read summary of it

I'm not defending Skinner or his shit performance, but maybe him having a baby and potentially being sick had something to do with last night?

He seems like the kind of guy that gets off his game real easy. As a goalie he really lacks athleticism and if he's not "on" he's awful.

Can someone post that X post about Stu's record against top 10 teams and against bottom tiered teams? I cannot fathom how management thinks that goaltending is fine and how Skinner is the defacto #1 almost regardless. His stats read like a back-up goalie's. He has stolen maybe 3 games this season but has cost us many more than that. If we want to try and win a cup let alone multiple cups we need someone better in the starting role.

I screenshotted it so I could text it to other people I know lol

f*** yes....he has good games bad games

do you even watch the games?
So we want to count eye test, too? Yes I watch the games. Classic comment when someone has nothing to say. Which makes sense as there is literally no defending a goalie like Moustache. Eye test, stats, they all say this guy is NOT average and instead is just lucky he plays behind a world class defensive team. Just his fault that most of the breakdowns end up in his net.

And 2-9 against good teams is average. For a goalie in the Swedish elite league, maybe. That is not average for an NHL goalie. If he played on a worse defensive team he would have washed out of the league entirely.

"world class defensive team" lol
how many breakaways have they given up in the past couple games? but I digress....the stats and the eye test say he's been trending up since December 1st...heck, he was the only reason we got a point against the Wings

Is it beyond crazy that people can defend Skinner with a straight face. He is nothing more than a slightly below-average goalie. Literally every stat you can look at shows this to be obviously true. We are bordering on some "1984 newspeak" type shit to argue otherwise.

I am 100% willing to ignore the last few games. But what about the last 2 years that show the exact same problems?

This isn't a new issue for Skinner, its a continuation of a long-established trend.

There's a hockey term for what you described.

It's called "a back up goalie".

He's a back up goalie. The sooner the Oilers accept and understand that the sooner they will win a Cup. If they want to keep trying to be the smartest bozos in the room they can f*** around and find out the hard way.
