I'm pretty hard on goalies but you'd have to be a delusional hater to blame the goalie for a loss where the team didn't score a goal. He had no chance on either goal.
The oilers were all over them. The difference was goaltending. Bobrovsky made all the saves he should have and a few he shouldn’t have while Skinner let in 2/5 early and let the team work from a hole again.

Championship teams don’t win with goalies who have a career .888 in the playoffs. Even as an .897 before this game, this year in the playoffs that’s not how you win. Anti Neimi won with a .905 and has been roasted since. skinner is worse. Florida got outplayed but got saves, that’s the difference.

Biggest game of his career and he gives up a goal on the 1st shot of the night. 4th time thats happened these playoffs so far. Gave up a goal on the 1st shot of the 2nd period as well. He might not have been the reason they lost. But he is the reason they were chasing all game.

.882 on the night. .897 on the playoffs as a whole.

A team hasn't won a cup with a goalie putting up a sub .900 sv% since the 1980s.

I wouldn't say either goal was bad, would you like a save on one? or both? of course. But neither goal was a stinker, Skinner was far from the main 1 or 2 players to blame for either goal. Yes, he got outplayed by Bob tonight, but his team needs to give some run support, and he got none.

I don't get the Skinner hate. Based on his contract and based on who he is he played a pretty good game. B + performance

Skinner is not Bobrovsky. If you want or think the team needs an elite goalie that's on management, not Skinner.

Tough to win when your team shoots 0%.

Everything’s Skinners Fault Fans at it again.
100%
I just watched the goals against him last night and they were perfectly placed shots.
Both goals would have gone in on Bob as well but the Oilers didnt have the same level of precision on offence.

That Rodrigues top corner shot for sure. A shot that is probably better placed upstairs than anything the Oilers threw at Bob. Don’t think we had a look that open and that uncontested all game. Even our breakaways were more contested that that shots and those are breakaways, there was back pressure that rushed those shots and forced the stickhandles we saw. On the flip side, You see Rodrigues come in, and able to reposition his body and pick his spot upstairs while the pass comes to him freely and Kane just stairs at him.

Yup.
It seems that Florida as a team (in this game) was more committed to defence than the Oilers were.
That play by Kane was very poor and I really wonder if it actually benefits the team by playing Kane.

Perhaps Perry and Kane should come out (some line shuffling should happen) and Ryan and Carrick should replace them. Kane may have more size than Ryan but we absolutely know that Ryan isnt going to quit on a play and that element is critical to winning at this point in time.

Kane’s been hurting us all playoffs. I hate to say it, cause there’s the physicality part of his game that we need and we benefit from. Just last night he made sure to get Bennet back for that hit on McD. But it’s hard to ignore the miscalculated passes that kill o-zone possessions or the inability to hold onto and make plays in the o-zone and the lazy defensive details at times.

Overall I’m thinking we’ll need to keep him in for his physicality. But just wish we could see a better overall game from him. We need it.

I'll never understand how a goalie as big as Skinner has so many holes in him. There were 5'8 goalies in the 80s who covered more net that him.

The first goal last night. Not a terrible goal but he actually does get over in front of the shot... and it goes right through him. Same as the Robertson goal. Big guy, in the butterfly, square to the shot... goes right through him. Don't get it.

No but championship teams usually have a goalie that can steal one. Skinner is the worst starting goalie of any playoff team. He was mediocre again when facing down an elite goalie
Did you miss game 6 against Dallas?

I know its been a month since that game, but this is ridiculous.

Was florida really more committed? They gave up like 3 breakaways and tons of grade A chances.

B+ is very generous.
Probably give him a C, he wasnt the reason they lost, wasnt the reason they won.

I dont know if many goalies win this game for the Oilers with how well Bob played.

They made mistakes but they were more committed to recovering and correcting those mistakes.
Pretty much everything the Oilers tried to do on offence was contested.

That 2nd Florida goal (for example) was completely uncontested. A wide open scoring chance with little to no pressure from any Oilers player.

Oilers had more uncontested chances than the Panthers.

Bob was there to bail them out.

Last night looked like the series against Winnipeg where they couldnt solve helleb, hopefully this is different

I disagree.
Bob did bail them out but (aside form the gaff by Bob which caused the Hyman chance) there was always a Panther player in hot pursuit and most often affecting the play in some way.
There were multiple times when a penlty could have been called because the Panther player was hacking at the gloves/arms of an Oiler. The Oilers shooters had very little time to get a clean uncontested shot away.

I’ll have to watch it again and I will. But I disagree. Even our breakaways were more contested than the Rodriguez slot area snipe.

He had the best stats of all Conference finals goalies in the last round. 100% Stole a game in Dallas. McD even said it himself, we’d be on a plane to Dallas for Game 7 if not for Skinner. Then the shutout in Round 1 could be classified as a stolen game too as we lost the shot share and possession game in that one by a large margin.

These hyperbolic Skinner takes are such a waste of everyone’s time. Say he’s not an elite goalie and you could back it up with plenty of relevant arguments. Say he’s worse than Bob too and you could make that argument. Saying completely wrong things like he never steals a game or can’t, is just a waste of everyone’s time.

Not my fault Skinner at it again

Gotta play a perfect game in front of him
I am rethinking my take. I am super critical of Skinner, but now I think he can be pretty good with the right goalie coach. I was listening to Dwayne Roloson when he was on with Reid- and Roli spoke about how much he hates the RVH and how it hampers goalies (King Henrik also spoke about this). The second goal, Skinner is in his reverse VH with the puck behind the net (as Roli said - why are you on your knees while behind the net). Puck comes out front- Skinner is on his knees, on the goal line- he can’t move up to challenge the shooter.

Roli goes on to say he teaches his goalies how to come out of the reverse VH quicker- or not go into it. Oilers need to hire him right now. He coach prime Gibson- he could do miracles with Skinner
