The first two goals the Canucks got a lucky bounce ... both changed directions by a Jets' stick.
1st goal ... Pettersson was trying to throw it to the front of the net and as Morrissey was checking him it hit his stick and went right to the slot.
2nd goal ... Scheifele goes to check Horvat and we know what happened.
When you have a long winning streak against a team you know eventually they will get the bounces.
You guys need to relax and not get so down when the Jets lose ... yes they had an off game and will have more in the future but they will have more better games then worst. I can't see them missing the playoffs.
Before the Canucks played Ottawa ... the Canuck HF board fans were seriously talking about tanking but the real fans knew better.

Nevertheless, Helle was off balance and unprepared for the first goal. I could say the same about Wheeler.

I would be surprised if Pettersson was just trying to throw it to the front of the net. The puck came right to him in the high slot in perfect shooting position. He was trying for the back of the net, not the front.

And I know streaks end. I was prepared for our streak against them to end. That doesn't mean we needed to be outplayed so badly. Could have at least made a game out of it.

I'd like to see Chevy aggressively pursue 2 quality defenseman, and that would be via trade, or free agent signing, but we desperately need help on defense, or we won't go very far.
He should’ve traded Laine for a Dman instead of PLD

Laine would probably agree after he lines up with Domi :sarcasm:
I was thinking for the Jets and Chevy trading for a need. The Jets lost their top 2 D-men in Buff and Trouba, and it has been a farce ever since then. We have Stastny as 2C so I just don’t get it.

I agree - just messing around with my smart ass reply.
I think he would have jumped all over a top pairing D if one was out there.
This was a tough spot to be in - finding exactly what you want is not easy under any circumstances.
I'm OK with how it turned out - I can also see a top D trade for a #1 center being easier if it came to that.

I think some people are underestimating how much Wheeler is bringing the Scheif line down 5v5 this year.

Scheif played part of one shift with Ehlers and Copp and looked much better. Wheeler can't get or keep the puck consistently anymore.
Rough times ahead if his role doesn't change.

I agree with your post, and if I were Chevy, I'd make a trip out to Buff's house or fishing cabin, and offer him $ 9 million to come back for this shortened season -- he just may bite at that.

I've seen pics of him on Instagram. He's been biting plenty of things. No way he's in playing shape any time soon.

I knew Wheeler was approaching the cliff but i didnt think he'd fall off it so fast. Yuck. He's been terrible. 15 goals given up 5on5 this year, Wheeler has been on the ice for 11 of them. Thats incredible. Almost sounds impossible.

Don't give up on him yet. He has started slow in each of the past several years and then come on strong as the season wore on. Too much ice time too early in the year has hurt him so far this year.

PAUL MAURICE'S LUGGAGE
There is literally 0 evidence of this. Based on everything we know and what we have heard from his wife since retirement his heart wasn't in hockey anymore. Which is fine, the big guy gave his all for so many years, he has the right to walk away from it if he doesn't feel motivated.

I could keep this to myself since this is just conjecture, but since I am here posting on the forum and saying "why not" to myself, I have read how ever many and thought about how ever many explanations (if there is/are any) for byfuglien's retirement.

after racking my noggin for any speck of neural firing, maybe, just maybe, byfuglien's childhood is an explanation for his retiring. allegedly, the dude grew up without much of a father figure (if I accurately recall,) spent much of his life at the hockey rink while meandering to his grandparents' domicile for lunch and rations as his mother worked long hours and just didn't have much of a stereotypical "childhood" that is so often assumed children have.

perhaps, he just wants to be there for his family as the kids are growing up (as a main factor.)

That puts Stastny on the 4th line you realize right?
I know Maurice would never have Lowry as the 4th line center but i would and that would give us 4 good lines and the 1st and 2nd wouldn't get too many minutes. Alot easier to do if we are leading a game not losing though.

Stastny is pretty old and who knows if he even plays next season, then we are right back to no 2nd line center without Dubois. I would love a #1 defenseman too but at least we are set at #1 and #2 center position for a long time.

17-18 centers and lines were just awesome:

1. Scheifele
2. Stastny
3. Little (superb on playoffs!)
4. Lowry

That allows sane TOI distribution.

Exactly, now we have Scheifele, Dubois, Stastny and Lowry. Scheifele was also very good in those playoffs.

Yeah, Scheifele was really good. Though Stastny line was even better 5-on-5, allowing very few goals and scoring loads of their own. Also Little was like +5 on 5-on-5, which is huge. Winning is equally about preventing the opponent to score, especially on playoffs. Obviously people remember and cheer for those that score, but Little was one of those "unsung heroes" of 17-18 playoffs.
