rod pushed the right button with nino by giving him an increased role and putting him back with aho and teuvo. you can even tell he was in the right mindset by mentioning to tripp that he scored 2 first period goals last year in this building with those two. it's almost like found money if he can get back to the concept of how he was playing last season and not forcing the offense but letting it come by good habits. who wouldn't covet that spot in the lineup?

dzingel had the right mindset tonight. he had 5 shots. if he's going to contribute, that's the kind of thing we're going to need to see more frequently. he has a really good shot and he's a little too selective with it. rod could stand to throw him a bone to get him going. it would be nice to see him get some time with svech perhaps. when haula went down it was devastating for dzingel because those two were showing some chemistry. playing with jordan, wallmark, and foegele is a failure to utilize his ability to be a passenger in a good way on a better line. he does far better being complimentary than he does creating his own offense. he's at his best when you don't notice him until he scores.

slavin against mcdavid is a beautiful thing even when mcdavid wins a few. to borrow a football reference, it's like watching luke kuechly audible in and out of plays at the line against tom brady doing the same before the snap. these two are playing chess while everyone else plays checkers. no pun intended. that's what you see watching maybe the best stick and body position defender in the league against the best skater and fastest hands in hockey. edmonton even tried to make carolina choose which assignment to neglect by splitting mcdavid and drai, which is a huge sign of respect. they sort of gave up on the combination that has been tearing the league apart in order to get one of those guys away from him. unreal.

the disparity between gauthier and necas tonight showcases the importance of preseason and better yet, reserving judgment until the games count. necas has been moving the needle in the proper direction. he's always been said to be a slow starter that adjusts towards the middle of the season like he did last season in charlotte and we were winning too much to call him up. (an incredibly convenient contract sliding excuse)

SLAVIN IS EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO BE IF YOU WANT TO BE A DEFENSIVE DEFENDER IN ANY SPORT.

HE’S A WALL ON WHEELS.

So much for Aho's slow start. If he maintains this pace he goes for over 40.
Slavin may be the most under rated player in the league. He is what other D hope to be when they grow up.
Svech has been ringing a ton of posts. Reset the radar.
Imagine McDavid on this roster? Poor guy.

Though Dougie's is correct, I'm not agreeing with the placement of the other red crosses. Aho's and NN's goals were scored from the goal line, and they aren't shown.

Thats not super surprising though. Basically saying that shot goes in 1% of the time. That’s about what you’d think.

EDIT: quoted the wrong post but whatever not fixing it

I think I saw it mentioned somewhere else, but as of now, Aho leads the league in goal scoring since November 1st with 15 goals in 19 games.

He's currently on pace for around 47 goals.

And you could reasonably argue that he's been our third best forward all season long.

Is this what it feels like to have nice things?

Don't count on it were still fans of the Carolina Hurricanes. Having nice things is fleeting

Canes now on pace for 104 points.

#Leadership

Fixed.

Enjoy it while it's good, y'all.

Yeah, I would really love it if some of the newer folks on this board would stop firing people into the sun for every mistake and actually enjoy the fact that we've built a team -- and a program -- that is the envy of the entire league in a few short seasons. We get one or two "Twitter moments" from every game these days. Those of us who came up through the Whalers years would go *decades* without seeing anything worth national attention.

I've been as entertained in the 22 months of the Dundon era than in the 44 seasons of Whaler/Canes hockey from 1974-2017 combined.
