Value of: Stoner or Bieksa to a team with cap (CAR, NJD, FLA)

So Anaheim has obvious salary problems, what would it take for a team with cash to take on Stoner's 2 year at 3,25M or Bieksa's 2 years at 4M. (Note: Bieksa needs to waive his NMC I believe but he could waive for a playoff team like Florida)

Bernier could also be a trading option since he makes 4,15M for 1 year.

Nobody needs a goalie, so you can likely rule Bernier out (especially at 4m).

Stoner could be moved. Bieksa would be more difficult.

Bernier won't be moved. He has starter experience which is nice behind Gibson, and half of his actual salary was paid on July 1 by Toronto already, so for a non cap team his cap hit is negligible.

Ducks are happy to have Bernier. The Leafs already signed his $2M signing bonus, leaving his salary at $2.15M, which the Ducks are comfortable with.

Bieksa won't waive for a trade. He doesn't want his family to move again.

Not sure why people keep bringing up Bernier, we literally just traded for him. Why would be trying to dump him?

Only because of his salary hit and the fact that you need more space to sign Rackell and Lindholm. I don't think he will be traded at all but he is an option.

He's not an option realistically though. Ducks traded for him because they need a backup goalie that could be a full time starter if Gibson gets injured again. His cap hit sucks, but his actual paid salary is fine for us. There's no backup goalie out there that could fill in as a starter if need be. And like I said, we aren't trading a guy a we just traded for.

Bieksa won't waive for a trade, he wants to keep his family in Anaheim. Bernier is not being traded, he was acquired for a reason.

Does Anaheim even need to clear more space once they send Stoner down to the AHL?

Bernier's cap hit is high but his salary now that the Leafs paid his signing bonus is like in the 2M range.

In terms of Stoner, you have to attach a guy like Montour to him. Savard who is injured and just goes on LTR, expires this year and insurance pays him cost a 2nd to move.

Stoner has another 2 years and has to play or be buried? Montour (if a team likes him) or a 1st is likely the cost to escape from him.

Stoner + Montour for a mid-round pick is a deal that I'd love as a Canes fan. He would be a significant upgrade to Ryan Murphy this year and moving forward.

Cap-wise, probably not because they can sign Rakell and Lindholm for a combined 9.5 mil and use Nate Thompson's LTIR to accommodate for any overage but for a budget team, Stoner's waiving doesn't really help them any. They will still likely be looking for a way to cut some salary.

Yep, going to be more costly to get rid of waived Stoner than what some Anaheim fans have been thinking here.
That contract right now looks very bad and Anaheim needs cap space, so no one is making any favours.

Yep. Which we'd have the rest of the season to do. There's at least one defenseman leaving via trade at some point(likely Fowler). Seeing as Despres is also likely to heading out via expansion, that's even more salary. The cap may need to be sorted out by the start of the season, but the salary does not.

It's more than that. It's 8 mil. plus Thompson's cap relief from LTIR.

Nope.

Perry, Getzlaf, Kesler, Silfverberg, Cogliano, Garbutt, Vermette, Boll, Raymond, Wagner, Ritchie
= 11 forwards, combined cap hit of 36.256M

Vatanen, Fowler, Bieksa, Despres, Manson, Theodore, Holzer
= 7 defensemen, combined cap hit of 18.964M

Bernier, Gibson = 2 goalies, 6.45M

Fistric, Maroon, Stoner = 3.017M dead cap

Sum: 20 players, 64.687M.

Hypothetical Lindholm/Rakell signing for 8M:
22 players, 72.687M; <400k cap space.

This is all ignoring Nate Thompson.
