Ducks trade Stoner + 2nd and 3rd round pick to a team. That team that gets the picks from Anaheim trades Stoner at 50% to another team for a pick.

What teams would be willing to do that? Anyone?

Probably nobody. Maybe some basement dweller would be willing to try that during the trade deadline, but definitely not now.

Pardon my ignorance, but why doesn't Anahiem just bury Stoner in the minors? Wont that give them some cap relief?

They're currently burying Stoner in the minors, But of his $3.25 million cap hit only about $950,000 comes off so they still have about $2.275 million of his cap hit on the books in Anaheim they pretty much need to shed it all.

Doubt that a 2nd and a 3rd on top of Stoners contract is enough. Look at what Detroit and Chicago and others had to give up to move their bad contracts far more then this. You would need those teams as basis for Stoner as well.

No, Stoner cleared waivers but was never sent to San Diego.

Stoner played for the Ducks yesterday vs NY Isles.

The team that takes Stoner then trades him at 50% for another pick so that team gets two picks from Anaheim and another from another team so 3 picks for 1,625,000 cap hit for 2 years. I can't believe a team wouldn't do that.

I guess if BM is willing to eat half of Stoners contract for 2 years and add a 2nd and 3rd maybe some team might be enticed by it. Would think that maybe a team like the Devils could have some interest there. $1,625,000 plus a 2nd and 3rd would think a team would do that for a bottom pairing guy.

Not the Ducks retaining any the team we trade him to then trades him with retention to another team for a pick. We wouldn't be retaining and trading a 2nd and 3rd round pick for someone to take him that is too much for not enough savings.

Stoner is a bottom pairing NHL dman still - not some AHL guy. Overpaid of course. As such, retaining 50% and adding two picks should entice a team. Stoner at $1.6M is serviceable. Unlikely Ducks would retain anything. Already retaining on Maroon for no good reason (why????).

My imagining is this

Ducks
Out
Stoner
2nd round pick
3rd round pick

Team 2
In
2nd round pick
3rd round pick
Late round pick
Stoner
then
Out
Stoner at 50% retention (1,625,000)

Team 3
In
Stoner at 1,625,000
Out
A late round pick

I don't see why this couldn't happen. One team gets 3 picks to eat 1,625,000 cap for 2 years and another team gets a physical veteran defenseman at a reasonable rate.

Oh okay thanks for some reason i thought he was buried in San Diego, Never mind then.

It was just assumed that would happen.

It may even have been a safe assumption, even in hindsight, but Despres wasn't even able to play a single full game before he had to be yanked.

It'll be interesting to see what the Ducks end up paying to dump contracts. Don't think a team will pick up Stoner for a 2nd + 3rd. I get the Ducks not wanting to give up more.

Team that first receives Stoner is now paying out half his salary $ AND having half his cap hit on the books for two years AND taking up a retention slot for two years.

imo Bob is going to have to pay. I know it's not what Ducks fans want to hear.

Also to say your 1st in a weak draft is out of bounds due to history... maybe... maybe not.

From a Leafs persepective I would want an A prospect if your 1st isn't in play. Think Larsson or Theodore (with something coming back from us).

Ducks are not trading a 1st round pick to get rid of 2 years of Stoner goes against our team history of drafting in 1st round.

this is probably the reason lindholm is still unsigned.
they are desperate, and everyone knows it. I don't even know if a late 2nd and 3rd is worth it for a guy that isnt a UFA this year
