Injury Report: Stolarz Stretchered Out Of SBA During Game 1

Prick reply by Maurice, and hiding behind the refs...obviously refs didn't make the call...they also made that awful call on Domi's crosscheck penalty...the media and Toronto did not turn Bennett into a villain...he turned himself into one...first injuring Knies a couple of years ago, now Stolarz...liars will speak lies as truths and expect people to believe their lies.
Sure, but what was Maurice supposed to say if not what he did say? He was in a spot where being prickly and a prick was always the right thing to say. He wants to support his player and not have him be suspended. He said the right thing, the only right thing he could say; "I have no comment, the ref was right there and he didn't see anything wrong"

Everybody did what they were supposed to do here:

Maurice said "no penality on the ice and the ref was right there" and that "the media and Toronto was always going to make Bennett a villain and now here we are".

Bennett said "I was just going to the net on PP, I didn't realize I even hit Stolarz, we are friends"

Berube said "elbow to the head" pressuring NHL and DOPS to react.

Players all said "I didn't see it, but we have to protect our goalies and players better" also pressuring NHL DOPS

NHL DOPS did not issue supplementary discipline for a play with no penalty that or may not have caused an injury. We don't know how hurt Stolarz was, we don't know what play it happened on, he might even be sick or dehydrated.

...it sucks because I think Stolarz got hurt on that play. The best we can hope for is for short leashes on Florida for this type of behavior the rest of this series
It's it just me, or does this read a lot like Who Killed Davey Moore, by Bob Dylan?

I feel I wish I got the reference.
Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not I,” says the referee
“Don’t point your finger at me
I could’ve stopped it in the eighth
An’ maybe kept him from his fate
But the crowd would’ve booed, I’m sure
At not gettin’ their money’s worth
It’s too bad he had to go
But there was a pressure on me too, you know
It wasn’t me that made him fall
No, you can’t blame me at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not us,” says the angry crowd
Whose screams filled the arena loud
“It’s too bad he died that night
But we just like to see a fight
We didn’t mean for him t’ meet his death
We just meant to see some sweat
There ain’t nothing wrong in that
It wasn’t us that made him fall
No, you can’t blame us at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not me,” says his manager
Puffing on a big cigar
“It’s hard to say, it’s hard to tell
I always thought that he was well
It’s too bad for his wife an’ kids he’s dead
But if he was sick, he should’ve said
It wasn’t me that made him fall
No, you can’t blame me at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not me,” says the gambling man
With his ticket stub still in his hand
“It wasn’t me that knocked him down
My hands never touched him none
I didn’t commit no ugly sin
Anyway, I put money on him to win
It wasn’t me that made him fall
No, you can’t blame me at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not me,” says the boxing writer
Pounding print on his old typewriter
Sayin’, “Boxing ain’t to blame
There’s just as much danger in a football game”
Sayin’, “Fistfighting is here to stay
It’s just the old American way
It wasn’t me that made him fall
No, you can’t blame me at all”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

“Not me,” says the man whose fists
Laid him low in a cloud of mist
Who came here from Cuba’s door
Where boxing ain’t allowed no more
“I hit him, yes, it’s true
But that’s what I am paid to do
Don’t say ‘murder,’ don’t say ‘kill’
It was destiny, it was God’s will”

Who killed Davey Moore
Why an’ what’s the reason for?

Aren’t they comparing the dirty plays and not the caliber of players? Because in that sense Messier was as dirty and dangerous as it gets. If it was him that elbowed Stolarz he wouldn’t be returning.
Messier was as mean as they come, no doubt. I do not remember Messier going after Goalies, Could be Goalies of that era defended themselves more. Billy Smith would destroy you with that ax of a stick if you got near him. Different era.

Being "dirty" and skilled is one thing, Howe, Messier, Bobby Clarke, the HOF is full of them. Being a goon and mediocre is another. Bennett is in the goon category. He is not an enforcer, Wilson may be dirty-ish but he will drop the gloves with anyone. Maroon played a roll. Bennett is a weasel, he will take the cheap shot and skate away. Messier hit you open ice, corners, anywhere. Bennett sneaks. Sorry, never will respect or like a player like Bennett. He can't carry Messier's, Lemiuex's or Clark's jock strap...

Bennett’s a very good player and is very good at what he does. Brad Marchand, another great player, understood why Bennett punched him last year and excepted it as part of the game. His skating into and running over Stolarz was much tamer than the punch that he gave Marchand and, as many former NHL players said is also part of playoff hockey. There’s a method to dealing with it and it’s not crying to DoPS.

I see Bennett as more of a Claude Lemieux type. Some skill and steps up in big games but a d-bag at heart that never answers the bell.

I agree. I don't like the Panthers, Bennett or Maurice but he had to defend his player there.
Messier is lucky he didn't get taken out like Lindros.
Messier didn't constantly drive with his head down like Lindros.

I like Maurice and thought he was spot on with his comment. It echos the comments that most players I heard said about the incident.

I don't like Maurice because of his tenure here but he's grown as a coach and he's now one of the best.

I just don't like him because I'm a bitter, cynical loser of a man.

Yeah, John Cooper said that for the last 3 years. TOR doesn't have to be stupid, just hit the hell out of Barkov and Tkachuk everytime Bennett and Eckblad start their shit. Better do it early. Watch FLA lost, they will double down. Watch tomorrow night the elbows, charges and boarding.
We often see in the playoffs - if we get a game that is chippy and full of controversial hits, that next game is an extremely tightly called game.

I would expect the refs to be very whistle happy tonight trying to keep a lid on everything. It's not a night where you try and get in any extra licks.

It's helped that they've spent so much of these playoffs in the lead, but they've generally done a really great job of staying clear of that extra crap so far. Need to doubly emphasize that tonight.

“Quick plays out there on contested ice, didn’t get a chance to see the video in detail. Hope Stollie is okay.”

But he chose to be a prick and hopefully the home crowd gives him an earful and an errant puck manages to find him in the chops.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. But hopefully still fresh. Priority is to get the 2-0 lead tonight.
